I'm thinking of downloading LimeWire onto my pc - has anybody had any real issues with it? Or was all OK?

I'm worried about viruses, my files being affected, my already slow pc running even slower... Any information about your own experiences with it would be appreciated, thank you =)

I call it slimewire, it is full of nasties. I used to use it until it buggered up my computer and cost me a lot of money to get it right.

You would be better of installing u-torrent and using www.mininova.org or www.isohunt.com for your searches. U-torrent does not use as much resourses on your computer as the other crap, and is a lot faster and safer. Good luck to you.lol

Of course there is Limewire, Ares, Bearshare, iMesh and tons of other sites, but if you can't tell a virus from your Motorhead or Timbaland or Westlife then you are gonna get in trouble so I say STUFF Limewire & all the other clones, they are too dodgy for virus's & spyware. Torrents are better but you still have to be careful!

If you want to try torrenting then I recommend uTorrent for new users. To get it click here:

    http://www.utorrent.com/download.php

then click download! Once installed you can find hundreds of torrent sites online but I recommend ISOhunt. All you do then is enter what you want in the search box choose the one you want (I recommend reading any comments first, this will tell you if it's fake or malware, IF it has comments if not you take your chances!) click it and then click download torrent. It will open up in your Torrent client or may ask you, but just choose where you want to download it to and thats it sit back & wait!

Alternatively there are other ways like Google! Theres no secret or trick to this its just that people don't know how to use google to its full potential.

Heres a link to a video that explains step by step how to use google instead of limewire, P2P networks etc.. I could explain it but the video does it so much better.

    http://video.stumbleupon.com/#p=faezma923t

HINT it doesn't say this in the video but RIGHT CLICK the file your after and choose Save As to download it.

    And heres another way..

you'd be right.. it's like going out to school or work and leaving your door shut , but your windows on the house open.. you wouldn't.. It does weaken the security of any computer.

the bigger worry though is (C) infringment, as a lot of the content on there shouldn't be.

I make music, and well I've had work leaked on there that shouldn't have been, and I was FAR from happy.

people will say "oh I can't afford an album" but yet can go out and buy a top of the range pc + broadband... go figure..

If someone truly can't afford my work, I wouldn't mind.. but these people download things from their favourite bands and supposidly "support " them, yet are doing the exact opposite.

remember not all people who make music are on major labels, and well all need to pay the bills etc.

I have cleaned about 10 pc's in the past for other people due to people using peer to peer software, I don't use it and well you know the risk, and it's up to you. besides the ones about viruses.

so the only person who probably benefits is people cleaning up pc's after viruses from such things if they are doing that for a living.

It didn't hurt anyone why is it such a bad sin? I have heard God in time does forgive us for the little things that we meant no harm to others. If you could see a sin say if it looked like blue paper the whole world be filled up with blue paper. Downloading illegally, I don't like when people do that bands put a lot of effort in their work it would be nice to get something in return.

Firstly your computer may be running slow due to spyware, download spyware -doctor free from google pack,

Don't use Limewire, goto www.downloadhelper.net, with the firefox web browser, then goto www.dizzler.com, find the song you like, and click on the download helper icon, if you can't find the song you like on dizzler ,look for the video on youtube, copy the address bar, then goto www.vidtomp3.com , click paste in the url box and download the audio. You don't need p2p and therefore no virus.

Never had a problem ever. If you insist on installing it make sure you have an up to date anti virus. You sometimes dont get what you download either. If I were you I would use something like http://www.youtorrent.com/ but then you will need http://www.utorrent/ to put whatever you download onto your Comp.

    Good Luck

I have found that limewire is the best p to p, but do remember to scan anything you download with your antivirus before you open it. I use the AVG free edition for my antivirus, so if there are any nasties in there avg will find and kill them

Ive downloaded limewire and use it often with no problem just make sure your anti virus is up to scratch

I tried it and it was crap. Your better off downloading EMULE its free and has a lot more material than limewire which I think is just for kids,
