Honestly I dont think Roger will be number one for a long time. There is Rafa just behind and Novak ( who is phenomenal) who are getting better and better. So, unfortunately its a bye bye Roger ( he is getting older and other players are using his tactics that he could only do)

Absolutely give the guy the benefit of the doubt. I mean he's Roger Federer and we've come to expect nothing but the best from him, but we can't forget that he is still just a human being and he's probably going through some things right now that are distracting him. Every great player has their ups and downs, but The Fed Express is not going out of business. He could be having a bit of tough time now and when the clay court season starts he could finally win what he's never won, that's the French. But no matter how much he loses he's still one of the greatest players to ever grace the tennis courts and I will pull for him to win every tournament he plays until it's his last.

I would say so. OK, he hasn't looked great... or even good so far this year, but there are still 3 Majors and 8 Masters Series events left to play. There's plenty of time for Roger to find his old form. It's a testament to his talent that, even though he's played like crap, he still got to the semis of the year's first 2 big events. He just seems to have started the year a little poorly. I still think he's underplaying though. Nearly 4 months into the season and he's entered just 3 events. Keeping up that average, he'll end up entering roughly nine events this year. He's not exactly overtaxing himself. It's going to be tough for him to stay match-sharp with a schedule like that. I think he's just hit the point where he's finding it hard to be pumped up all of the time. All the greats have been there. When you've won that many Majors, it must be hard to get motivated for even the Masters Series events. Happened to Sampras about 10 years ago. He still managed to win another 3 or 4 Majors.
If Federer heads into the US Open Still in search of his first Major of the year, then yes it would appear that his days at the top may be over, but for now lets give him a break and let him prove us wrong.

gannoway has a good point.
Tennis comes down to just a few points. Even if you're only 10% off your game, you can lose 6-0, 6-0 to someone you'd ordinarily beat. When you look at the Federer-Roddick semifinal last year at the US Open. Federer was just 1% better than Roddick and that translated to a straight-set victory.
This was also the way it wa between Agassi-Coria match-ups on HC, when Agassi had the upper hand. Coria's game was really similar to Agassi's. They used the same strategy and tactics, but Agassi did everything just a tiny bit better, and that translated to a butt-wooping everythime.
Just because Federer is getting over his mono doesn't mean that his game is back an track. If you lose just 10% speed on your backhand, that can spell disaster for your game.

Yes of course. He still is the best. Very well adapted to this sport. Let us wait for his complete recovery from the ailment he has right now.
It will be very hard from among the other players to achieve what he has right now. The record that is, where he is still striving very hard to keep on winning & breaking the feats of previous reigning champs.
Truly a champ that he is with the kind of attitude he has, COOL & WELL Mannered. An IDOL indeed.
Viva Roger!!! Keep on winning like Tiger Woods.
Give it 5 yrs more Great Swiss.

I give him the benefit of the doubt because i play in tournaments myself and it is really tough out there, if you are not 100%, you can lose to a lesser player. Competitive tennis is very physical. That's why 30 years old is consider old in tennis. Compare that to boxing, both Archie Moore and George Foreman won world championship at 40+ years old. That show you how tough tennis really is. Just because Roger recover from his sickness, doesn't mean he recover 100%. It is impressive enough that he get to the semifinal.

I built him in my garage to make me some serious moolah. So far I've been stiffed. Roger, if you're out there, give me my money!

Tennis talk should read this forum! Roger is just sick. He will be back and eveyone will see how he usually is. I so hope he will get healthy again to win the French.
I wonder if he will win Miami, though. Normally I just expect it. I really hope he will do his best, and really hope he's healthy.
Well, its late and I'm cold and sleepy! Good night Akesher!

I think Roger is just reserving his best for the last...only one more tournament and the clay court season begins...winning all of these hardcourt events means not much to Roger...i can sense that he is just saving the best for last...if u know what i mean.....
