Why do people think that America is perfect?

People pretend like the U.S never made a mistake, and then when someone such as myself criticizes it, you tell me to go to another country...

Let's talk about this Constitution... "All men are created equal" Strange how that didn't apply to African American's.... Then it takes 19 amendments to give women the right to vote... Strange if you ask me...

Let's talk about the first Amendment in specific... Freedom of speech.. I don't have specifics, but there is a story of a woman being harassed (by officials) on a plane for wearing a shirt that said "**** Bush" doesn't sound like supporting free speech to me...

Freedom of religion... Apparently, if Barack were in fact a Muslim, it would work against him...

Freedom of Press: With all these conspricy theorys I don't know who runs the media...

Freedom of petition: The only one I think actually means something in this country... Except you need a million signatures to actually make a difference..

CASE AND POINT: America aint perfect...

Update:

Freedom of Assembly: Somehow they have laws against kids hanging out in too big of groups and wearing the same colors... Very hypocritical.... Sure it is for the best... But still...

It's not that I hate America, I just don't think that it should be put on a 30 foot pedastal...

It's America who thinks she's perfect. That's the problem. A place when you can causally call someone racist and American because you disagree. I know I'm proud.

America is not perfect. I doubt anyone who's living in America can ever say that. Nobody's perfect. That makes it No country's perfect. If people think that Amerca's perfect, well I guess they have some basis to say that. When I was a kid, when I learned that the Universal Language is English, I was thinking hey maybe America's no.1 country in the world that's why their language is universal. But then I learned, they're not the only one who's using that language.

Other people also think that America's perfect because (I actually asked opinions of my officemates) they have an advance technology. What they didnt know is the scientists, engineers, architects and other specialists working for America is not actually ALL AMERICAN. There are other RACES too!

Other people also think that poverty did not HIT America that hard. It is not true. You just have to watch news more often and do atleast a little research for that.

When it comes to their constitutions and amendments, I do not have much of knowledge with that but I just want to quote what my professor in law said.

No other country, express the word LOVE on their constitution but in the Philippines.

But then, whose country has the most clean SUPREME COURTS? NONE actually.

America's not even CLOSE to being perfect. I'm an American soldier living overseas and I can tell you from my experiences in many different countries that America usually has a bad rep. That's my opinion based on what I've seen. In the past decade I've been overseas more than I've been in America. Sometimes our freedoms are what get us into trouble. Crime and gun control are very negative and it appears that Americans aren't as open minded as some foreigners are in things such as language. I hate hearing about the people that think that 'if you want to live in America you should speak English'. That's the dumbest thing I've ever heard! In most countries I've visited, the locals will speak at least SOME English and most likely a little bit of other languages as well. Around military posts there are street signs and vendor signs that usually have that countries language and English (even if in small print) underneath. It seems that other countries do those things as a courteous act to visitors...not because they have to.

Overall though, America is definitely the best place in the world to live. We just have some fine tuning to do.

first of all americans English is not your own construct but you owe that to the British who had a world empire and that is why English is spoken in large parts of the world. the spread of English language is mostly done by the British. 2nd of all i dont think anyone in the world thinks america is perfect nor do americans them selves. i think i can be good for some and that it has problems like other nations. 3rd american culture is very violent other cultures so thats why they have alot of gun violence. and 4th many Americans wont agree with this is that american is not a true democracy the republican and democratic parties are not that different from each other. american is more like a polyarchy where two parties switch power between them. and 5th the us supreme court decide your president in 2000 so that was very undemocratic. 6th is stating this again american most likely know there country isnt perfect but is does have good qualities and they are proud of those.

I've never met a person so stupid or ignorant to say or even think that America is perfect.

But if you think for a second there is one country in the world that treats poor people better, then you ought to check out your facts and do some traveling. The poorest here ( aside from mental illness/drug abuse) are better off than 90+% of the world.

And as far as people putting down America, if continued financial support for their miserable little countries was based on praise, then they'd be singing it from the rafters. Talk about hypocrites.

Who is putting it on a pedestal. We're just happy to live here. And people are equal now. We improve ourselves every decade. Why complain about that now except that you've got a chip on your shoulder. No one is saying it's perfect. It just angers you when people think their country is great. I'll never understand that sad, useless mentality.

"Jarrod" were you raised to think bigotry makes you superior? When will all of you nonAmericans realize that taking so much time to make sure Americans know you hate their country is not attractive, it doesn't make you sound enlightened, and says much more about you than it does us.

You always know when the Brits wake up because YAnswers becomes hateful. What's wrong with your country that all of you are like that?

There isn't a non-American comedian in the world who doesn't make jokes on America in general for being either:

    1. Stupid

    2. Racist

    3. Gun-Nuts

If you look up "Chaser Firth in the USA" there is a whole segment from an Australian comic team taking the mickey out of Americans.

Some jokes that pop up in my mind first up include:

Danny Bhoy (Irish comedian), Melbourne International Comedy Gala: "Anyone who thinks that the sausages are made of dragon meat should just hop on the next plane to America"

Paul McDermott (Australian comedian/host) Good News Week (Australian TV show): "When a teenager with a gun goes on a killing spree, and you think that you need to put more strict laws on guns, your sensible. If you think that, for protection, everyone needs to carry a concealed weapon, then you're American"

Nobody thinks Americas perfect. We're all to busy laughing at you.

Source(s): Sorry, but it's the truth. I'm really not that funny to think up of those jokes without stealing them off someone

    No. It isn't perfect.

BUT I LOVE MY COUNTRY ANYWAY !

Try living somewhere else. We've got alot of work to do but I still think this is the best nation on Earth.
