If you are talking about the 2 running right now you have a man with no back bone who refuse to stand up to blatant racism from his pastor , and a woman who blamed the Republicans for her husband sticking his male appendage into anything that moved.

The country is ready to accept either. The problem is that the 2 who are running who fit your definitions would not be good for the country. Many people recognize this fact and it is unlikely that either will be elected this year.

Female president - why not. However I'm not sure if Hillary is the best choice in this respect. She want to clean up under the rug at the Oval Office. Wonder what she'll find there? Maybe she can ask Bill or Monica. Black president - unfortunately Obama spoiled it by pandering to Al Sharpton. we shouldn't elect a black or a female for the sake of electing one. Obama has no experience and has ties to racist adviser's. Hillary has done nothing to gain experience as a leader other than run for office since she stopped being first lady plus she has a very tainted past.

Yes, I think it's silly to ask "are we ready". Ready for what? A leader? Sure we are. They are people just like anyone else and deserve to be treated with the same respect and integrity as anyone else. However, they still have to earn respect just like anyone else too.
