black hair...but what colour highlights?

i don't think highlights go with black hair - it always looks really fake, coz black hair doesn't really lighten in the sun... but maybe dark brown...

Hi there! I have black hair too, and must urge you to go to the salon as re-dying over black will not provide you with good results [trust me, I've been there!].

Ultimately, the more 'golden' tone highlights you ask for, the lighter your overall colour will appear. This kind of colouring would be extremely difficult to do by yourself, just a word of warning!

your highlights should depend on your skin tone and what looks best on you. i've seen asians with both red and blue highlights and either one looked good. i, myself, have red highlights because that is the natural tone of my hair. if you want the natural look-look at your hair closely and you will be able to see the natural highlights caused by the sun. there are kits out today that will give you more than one highlight color in the same treatment. course, if you wanna make a bold statement-there's always purple or some other equally vivid color!

I have black hair and got brown highlights, but they turned out to be really light. I like them! I'm now thinking about gettin dark brown/red highlights or even dye it completely lol! i would go with dark brown and redish. It's not really red, it's a weird color, lol.

Well blonde shades are pretty but lightning hair that dark can be tricky. Sometimes it will look brassy. Agianst black hair really light blonde does look great!! I know you said nothing to bold but a dark red color would be pretty agianst dark hair!!

hey same here.. i got black hair too.Well i would go with alot of colors like alot of shades of Brown.. Watever u do dont get beach blonde highlights..get the low lights which are the darker colors.. HAve fun wit your hair...
