my knee hurts everytime i work out on a tredmill....help?

i dont run on a tredmill because i know that for women it is bad on our knees so i do a powerwalk on an incline to burn the same amount of calories and get a more vigorous workout. however i have had to stop my workout short because of severe knee pain. it feels like there is liquid in my knee cap or something. does anyone know what to do about this or what may be wrong with my knee(s) if there is anything at all?

First, stop the treadmill! Anytime a muscle aches, it's usually a good sign. If a joint hurts, stop what you are doing!

I'd see a doctor for a medical opinion on the knees. it may be more than you think and I would take the chance not to get it checked out.

If the doc okay's it, start using the recumbant bike or any other non-impact stationary bike. He/she might also recommend that you start taking a supplement containing glucosamine/chondroitin and MSM. This type of supplement directs water to the joints and keeps them hydrated and pain free.

Good luck and I hope it's not a serious joint condition.

If you are getting that type of pain walking on a treadmill, then you should probably change your type of workout (try and elliptical, cycle, or rower). I have put a good web page on different knee issues that occur due to running below for self-diagnosis:

Try resting and icing the knee for a couple days and if there is still pain go see a doctor. Excessive pain is never a good sign during a workout.
