Back in the Dark Ages when witch burning was socially acceptable...?

...I think there are quite a few supposed "Christians" on R&S who would have burned witches, atheists, scholars, and anyone else who stood in their way. It's sad that the mindset has survived this long, but it has.

Who, around here, do you think would be in speaking-in-tongues-style religious ecstasy by burning a witch?

The witch burnings in America were far more recent than the Dark Ages.

Dark Ages-500-1000 AD and not a pleasant time at all

    Salem Witch Trials-late 1600's.

Not even mentioning slavery, lynching, women's continuing struggle for equal rights, etc.... The defense of all of those, of course, were often based on "scripture."

Sigh. We continue it today with the oppression of homosexuals.

A lot! I've long said that if they could they would bring back the burning times. It has long been touted that the Holocaust was the worst crime against humanity ever committed but people love to forget the fact that a much greater loss of like was during the burning times. Most were not even witches. If your neighbor got mad at you you were accused of witchcraft and then executed.

A lot of the killing were to gain property and land cause whoever was accused of witchcraft and convicted, there property was forfeit and so there family, wife, husband, parents, children, were out of the street.

It may not be "socially acceptable" but you know that any American Xian would get moist between the knees to burn a witch, a gay, an atheist or a Jew. You know that in America the Trinity is the three-part belief of Xians here:

    1) Jews killed Christ

    2) Atheists are doomed

    3) God hates fags

Have you ever heard any other Xian message from an American? I certainly have not.

That depends on who we pick as our witches... some people I would be happy to supply the firelighters for.

(there have been a few witch hunts recently on here, neither of which were perpetrated by christians)

Of course there were Christians that burned Witches but you forget that it was other Christians that put a stop to it as well.

Doesn't make it right, but without those Christians, Witch burning may still be happening, no doubt.

I will have to agree with Glorious on this one.

There are many and I truly don't like calling names,or singling people out in public, even if they do deserve it

There was only 1 force of power during the Dark Ages- the Roman Catholic church. Don't get things mixed up- it will keep you confused.

*DRINK* for an effort to establish Right of Victimhood. Here, it is implicit, and we've moved on to egregious offenders.
