Are we really so shallow?
In "news", researchers at the New England Historic Genealogical Society have found that Obama is related to Brad Pitt and Clinton to Angelina Jolie. Do we care? Why aren't people spending as much time and effort to ferret out the unsavory facts about these people, rather than presenting fluff like this? http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080325/ap_on_el_pr/ca...
I think it is meant as a distraction to shove pablum like this at us.
Phil, I certainly meant no disrespect for the Geneological Society. That type of information IS their job. I'm appalled that the main stream media thinks that is what is news worthy about a presidential candidate.
Thank you, ladyshondra and Ron. I get tired of information to the public being dumbed down, as if we are incapable of understanding complex issues. Or maybe that is the problem...maybe someone is afraid we will understand all too well.
Thank you all for your responses, both the serious and the humorous.

Claudi you be hitting the nail on the head,, We don't have
journalist anymore, we have cheap shot one line artist, who
who would rather print crap, fluff and Bull ****,, they stand
a far less chance of being brought in front of the Editor
and being challenged. Look at the Media we have right
now, shock and sensationalism. No digging no working
diligently on a creating a good piece just, fan the flames
of hate and move. The days of Winchell , Murrow, Huntley
Brinkley and even Tom Brokaw are long gone,, When we
lost Peter Jennings we lost a good man, didn't agree with
his politics but always like his candor and style.

What do you expect the New England Historic Genealogical Society to do? They're probably just using the election to draw a little attention to themselves. If you want to criticize someone, criticize the media for not asking the tough questions.
Edit: I really hope that the "New England isn't even in America" comment is a joke.
Edit2: There will always be these type of fluff pieces. I think the real problem is there is no meat to go along with it.

i do think all this silly stuff is a distraction and meant to keep important things out of the main stream media. they are now trying to 'forget' the problems of Obama's support for Wright and if they have their way, it will not be mentioned again. i think there are those of us who feel this is an important issue and this is merely the tip of the iceberg.

I went to Brad Pitt's high school. I don't see the family resemblance to Obama. I think Clinton could keep it in the family with Angelina...as could I if she were distantly kin. lol

Yes, we are very shallow as a nation. We would rather see silliness like this instead of talking about real issues.

I don't care. These people are nothing but trash with money. And I hate to say it but a lot of Americans are this shallow.

Because people LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOVE celebrities, and they think it's great.
Plus, let's face it, this whole scene has been a bit of "presidential idol" and we all want to know how much cooler we can make Barack Obama, right?
Sure...
