Do any of you woman wear hats to church or other formal events and, if so, do they have veils?

I noticed several at church on Easter Sunday and they look so elegant. I'm tempted to buy one and I was wondering if wearing a formal hat to church or other social events is becoming popular again? (If any of you men what to answer, I'd love to hear your thoughts too.)

I quit wearing hats in the late 60's. I have seen women wearing their fancy hats, (no veils) & thought how elegant they looked. If you're tempted to buy one, then by all means, go for it. I bet you'd look really pretty in one. Have you noticed that many of our ways of dressing are coming back? The same can be said for hairstyles also. I wonder if wearing "white gloves" will come back too.

I am a man, so I will answer since you asked.

I remember my grandmother wearing hats in church, it's mor like part of the attire, where-as with men, it's a hat.

Hat's on women are acceptable, they are even shown in modern movies such as "The Titanic". Molly Brown had on a big hat at dinner.

As for veils, I have not seen any woman except a Nun wear a veil. And unfortunately, those are going out of style along with the "Habits" that Nuns once wore.

Times change... I think if we could turn back the clock 100 years, we'd be better off.... -- well wait, we wouldn't have real toilets and showers... so...

Be Yourself. Do what you feel is right and is comfortable. Remeber, you can always remove the hat if you want.

    What a sweet question...

    Bless you.

  • I think hats are lovely, and elegant. There was a time when a proper lady wouldn't be seen without her hat and white gloves. Unfortunately it isn't mainstream anymore. I haven't even seen any women around this area wearing hats even on Easter, which is a shame. I wish more ladies would wear hats! The only time we wear hats around here is in May when we have the Kentucky Derby. Then it's fashionable for women to get a hat for derby.

In the 50's and 60's when I was a little girl I remember my mom wearing hats and gloves to church as did most of the women where we lived. My sister and I also had our bonnets that we were expected to wear..(not very willingly I might add..lol..) I'm not sure if wearing a hat to church was a sign of respect or if it was just easier to quickly pin your hair up and plop a hat on top while trying to get several toddlers and small children ready for church...lol..anyway,, I still think that an attractive hat adds a finishing touch to a lady's out fit just as much as properly applied makeup and well manicure hands do...I love some of the old movies where women traveled on trains and planes and wore a beautiful suit or dress and had either the veiled hats or the wide brim one that partially hide thier eyes ..It seem to make them very mysterious and ladylike...very unlike today where you practically have to disrobe for security reasons before they let you board. There is something to be said for dressing more formally for certain occasions,, even my 7year old grandaughter who is very active acts more"lady like" when she is dressed more formally for church or a wedding..sometimes I can't believe that she is the same little girl...lol...

I like to see mature ladies decked out with a nice formal hat. On Easter Sunday I did see quite a few hats this year in So. Calif.

Go for it girlfriend! It's nice to see the old style coming back. Lots of hats in CA but not with veils. Another thing is women are in dresses a lot more. I noticed the ads on TV and they show women in spring dresses, and hats.

I wear hats a lot-so church is a natural. I think you'll see hats in certain kinds of churches, but if you feel like wearing a hat-go for it. I have people coming up to me to tell me how much they love seeing hats-church or anywhere. We may just start a trend.

I agree they are stunning. Why not be a trend setter? Maybe if you start, others will see how great you look, and they will want to do the same. Personally, I no longer wear hats to church, but I will wear one to a formal luncheon or maybe even an afternoon wedding. Veils are great, because they soften laugh lines. I'm all for it!

I remember way back when I went to church, in the fifties, women always wore hats. Now I am an Atheist, been one for some while, so I would not know; but I like hats, especially berets.

Hats are back where I live and they are beautiful. That is fortunate for me because I design and make custom millinery. We are having a big Derby Day benefit party here in May and hats are mandatory for the ladies. I am excited that several of mine will be worn at the event.
