How do you get your voice back in a short period of time?
I have 2 friendds who have a sore throat but are supposed to be singing in a competition this coming Friday. Do you have any ideas on how you can get your voice back quickly?

I have this great recipe for a gargle, it tastes bad but it really works. My voice teacher gave it to me.
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. clear karo syrup
6 oz. warm water
take small sips and gargle it in your mouth until its all gone.
dont eat for 20 min. after you take it.

I used to be a singer a while back, and when you are sick, ill or have a sore throat, it can take anywhere from 24 hours to two weeks, to even a month to get over a sore throat. Use Halls Cough Drops, Tea with honey and lemon, garggle salt water, steam, and do not speak or sing until your voice heals up. If it is really bad, see a doctor.

This is going to sound disgusting, but it works. I have really bad acid reflux so I get a lot of sore throats, but I am also a classical singer so I've had to work through that. This is what works best:
24 ounces of water
8 ounces of lemon juice
8 ounces of grade B maple syrup
1/4-1/2 teaspoon of ground cayenne pepper
Mix this up and drink it over the course of a day or two. If you get hungry only drinking this, you can eat fresh fruit and vegetables or healthy carbs and protein. No chocolate, caffeine, tomatoes, high-fat foods, or DAIRY especially.
This will get your voice back in full.

Drink a lot of water (room temp water is best). add lemon juice to it occasionally also. Stay away from chocolate, ice cream and cold drinks that restrict the throat passages.
Get plenty of rest and do not use the voice more than necessary. I have been in choirs, in singing groups and I also teach vocal instruction. This has always worked for me.

Tell em 2 not talk until about a couple of hours before the competion. Kinda like hannah montana. I'm not a fan of the show but I saw dat episode where she loses her voice. or they can just go to the doctor 2 check it out if not then they'll just have wait for a miracle..

This might be bad advice but how I just got my voice back is I sang through the sore throat and the hoarse-ness and now my voice is back...

Yeah, I agree about resting A LOT. But be sure that they warm up very well before they perform, especially if they spend a long amount of time not talking before that point.
