    That really depends on what you're doing with it. For drawing, I prefer specific pencils. For writing essays, journal entries, or poetry, I generally write in pen (an old habit, formed in school). I wouldn't recommend you use a pencil for your check- or bank-book. Pencils are also really useful on exams.
