How old does your children have to be...................?
How old does your children have to be before you leave them at home by themselves? My husband and I are tossing back and forth the idea of this summer of letting the kids sleep in the morning and watch tv all day? We live in a very small rual area and the olny daycare is booked all the time, so I dragg them to work with me and make them read books or play there gameboy, which means they have to get up at 6:00 a.m. monday thru friday snf come home at 6:00 p.m. and I feel so guilty because they don't get to have a summer to run and play and sleep in late or talk on the phone all day with there friends. My oldest is 11 and my youngest is 9, but do you think this is too young, I only work 10 mintues away? So what do you think? Thank you and I really do appericate your thoughts on this. I guess I am just a mom and worry that something bad will happen or that is just too young.

It is not against the law to leave your kids home alone at 11 and 9. As long as you check up on them every few hours and as long as they are not special needs children. I know this because I am a social worker. Some kids are mature for their ages. Make sure that they are not allowed to cook. That kind of thing. Safety is the main concern. You can also put them in some kind of program like snack in the shack, where they play at the park all day but they are supervised.

11 is to young to care for himself much less a sibling. I know you only work 10 minutes away but it only takes 10 seconds for something horrible to happen. May I suggest find an in home sitter? It would allow the kids to sleep in and be at home all day. But I wouldn't leave them at home by themselves.

a 9 and 11 year old wont know what to do when i strange person comes to the door whereas a teenager will probably would if you teach them well enough
i hope this helped =D

I was left at home at nine, but it was the scariest thing ever. I used to hide behind the sofa if someone knocked on the door.
