Spiritually speaking: Is there a difference between the ego and the personality?
What are the differences? Are there similarities?
Can you describe these two aspects of being, spiritually?
Thoughts...?

I believe Rainee nailed it. Ego is the vehicle we use to function here. Personality is the face that ego presents to the world.
Both ego & personality are tools for here, can & do change with circumstances, & are not part of our true Being. The real us was created perfect, is unchanging (how can you improve on perfect), & has always been in union with the Divine or Source.
Blessings!

For me, spirituality is a sense of connection - with all things. I understand Freud defined the id (natural ancient "animal" aspect), the ego (sense of personal identity) and super-ego (which manages the ego through self-observation). So the personality is the public expression of all this. Whether that personality has any sense of "spirituality" is another matter. For some it seems to boil down to a belief in the supernatural. For me it is as defined above. So take your pick, or define your own.

Ego is an integral part of human being, all of us have some ego problem, i feel a person with more ego has to over come more hardship in the journey of life. However personality is the influencing power of our soul, which directs and attracts others automatically.
In other word ego is the negative influencing power of our mind and personality is the positive influencing power of our mind.

Spiritually speaking, personality and ego-consciousness are the same and are what is called the I-sense (ahamkara, in Vedantist philosophy). They are thought to be necessities related to sense experience and individuation in the realm of duality but are products of physiological necessity, habits, and conditioning (samskaras) and are changeable and ephemeral (eg, who you were when you were 3 is not the same person as who you are at 33 or 63 or 93). They are considered to be not innately "real" or "conscious," philosophically speaking (in terms of Hindu and Buddhist philosophy, that is) and are sometimes by analogy thought of as the mirror into which "higher consciousness" is reflected.

Well we might say that ego in this case is conditioning and the personality unconditioned manifests as the bliss and joy in life experienced by the one in all its different aspects.
EDIT: Dogs are a great example, most have great personalities although each is different, except the ones that have been in contact with neurotic or ego driven humans, then you see the fear and distrust manifest through their personalities. May all beings be happy, may all beings be happy, may all beings know love. May all doings be shattered by being.

The ego is the junction point between personality and pure consciousness. This is why we can change entirely in personality and still have the sense of being a continuous being.

i have done some reading on the "ego" not as much on personality. from what i understand, the ego is what separates us from our true nature, being love.
the ego causes us to judge, to fear, it misinterprets "love" as the need to 1) give love and 2) recieve love. when we act out of these needs, we create a false sense of aprehension within ourselves because we are reaching out in order to attain love, when really, we /are/ love, itself.
the personality... i really dont know a lot about. the way i interpret it (without having done any reading) is that it is a reflection of our true self, although, one that is hindered by things such as the mind, and the ego.

Personality is one of the manifestations of ego.
First of all ego divides as I and Mine. Then it creates incompleteness. Then desire and action come into picture. Then categorization of good and bad. Now good should be repeated and bad should be avoided. This is what our personality is.

i really dont know anymore... my 18 yr old tells me that the soul is non existant (he was ***kin serious too... am feeling hurt & unconsolable...
I always thought the ego/psyche made up the personality, i like to imagine all these 'little' traits are attached like beads onto a thread, all connected.
((:)) Thankyou for the much love its needed!!

when the ego has dropped... for whom should a personality be important any longer?
the body mind still moves, talks... the self itself, life itself flows through the body mind... if this is summarized as personality... then fine. otherwise life itself just expresses itself through the body mind in a unique way.
