Senior Ladies....are you or do you know anyone that are members of the"Red Hat Society"??

What do the ladies do, besides wearing purple and red hats? I am sure there are luncheons and parties, but do you play cards, do arts and crafts? Do husbands/male friends get involved too? It seems kind of fun......

I am a proud member of the Red Hat Society, which explains why I own more red hats and purple dresses than any sensible woman should. There are local events and some great regional and national gatherings. The real joy of the organization is that there are no rules, no projects, no fund-raisers and no obligations beyond having a good time.

It provides us an opportunity to get together with the girls and have a giggle. If that sounds like fun to you, here is a link. You can use it to find a local chapter in your area.

I am a member of the Red Hat Society. We wear our red hats and purple outfits. We have teas, lunches, and fun dinners. We also do outings and different activities. You do have to be over 50 to wear the red and purple, if you are under 50 you can wear pink and lavender. We began because of the poem which, begins. "When I am an old woman I shall wear purple with a red hat that doesn't go and doesn't suit me"... Lots of fun! Glad you asked.

Hats are red, dress is purple. If you're not 50 yet, you wear a pink hat and a lavender dress. They have their own site. I went to one meeting. It was a luncheon, and I was late. There was a basic air of celebration in the idea of having accomplished the age of 50. Their site answers all your other questions.

I have a sister, niece and first cousin who are members. As best I can tell they go to parties and luncheons wearing those dresses and hats. I have enough parties and luncheons through my volunteer activities. Don't need any more.

I was asked to be a judge with the ladies from the Red Hat Society. There was a contest where employees at a nursing home baked their best decadent chocolate desserts and the ladies tasted each entry and judged the best in appearance, taste, originality, etc. It was a lot of fun and we got to eat the most delicious choco;ate goodies! They asked me to join but I never got around to it! They are so cute!

My mom is a member and from what I gather, they just did lunches wearing their crazy hats and purple outfits. I don't think the husbands were involved other than maybe driving the wives to the function! Mom said they had a good time.

The Red Hat Society began as a result of a few women deciding to greet middle age with verve, humor and elan.

I think they had a group on a talk show one day.

I have a friend who has been with a group of red hats for years and she loves it. I was asked to join but I was too far away at the time. I'm not really a joiner type of person either.

I belonged for a while....way back when they were just starting up. It was a lot of fun...we would plan casino trips, meet for lunch, etc.

Then, it became full of boring superficial women who turned the whole thing into some fashion-fest.

I'd rather have a tooth pulled than to hang out with a group like that....
