Are you sure he meant records as in your personal and private health records, because I don't think those are even readily available to just anyone.

However you mention you were ill, were you out on worker's comp or disability? Perhaps he meant those records, which your employer would likely keep in your files. These only give generalizations of your illness, nothing too private. And are available to anyone who has access to your personnel records.

Firstly EVERY discussion you have with health visitor/doctor etc is typed up and sent to BT (it used to be Mckessen in Warwick but BT took over the contract a little while ago...) so basically the BT staff they have employed at the centre have access. When the Spine comes in every nurse/ doctor in the country will have access to your details theoretically .... these are detailed records... you will be able to opt out of the secondary user service as the government initially wanted to send details the medical research places .... without hiding any personal details

The Spine is still in debate as many people have shown they want to opt out of the nhs due to the government's heavy handed approach the IT and big brother nonsense and I think before it goes fully live we may see yet another uturn and full opt out being available.

Your employer does not have access to your medical records unless you grant it by the way ... did you grant any access in the past when you were ill or is this person just guessing from info on sick notes.

I work for a health care system and nobody has the right to look at your health records without your consent. We see health records all day but are not aloud to release or discuss them with anyone, we can be sued and fired for this without the patients permission. The only time we can use the records is in the case of medical care that we are giving you. There is a form that you must fill out when you go to the doctor that has this information on it and gives you a place to write who you allow health care providers to discuss your records with. I would consult with the persons supervisor and let them know what happened.

It seems everybody can have access to your medical records. When Spine is fully implemented all and sundry will have access, this includes, banks, social workers, the Police, private detectives, insurance companies, employers and so the list goes on. If you ask to withdraw from Spine you get an 8 page standard letter from the Department of Health full of gibberish and at the end of the letter they say no you can't withdraw.

That is very bad behaviour on the part of the member of staff.

However you have a right to see your medical records, your doctor, and hospital should you need to go there.

You could put in a complaint for intrusion, into your private life, because if it was me I would be furious

this is awfull, no one should see this apart from your doctor without your consent. i would ask him how he got hold of this private info then talk to a solicitor.
