My friend Bev wants to know why her dog Shiba inu beagle mix keeps eating her underwear?

Generally it is because the dog likes the "scent" of the wearer. Dogs are gross in that respect.

Tell your friend to put her undies in the hamper and the dog won't be able to do that.

Because dogs chew! There's no getting around it dogs chew! They do it for many reasons because their teething, to strengthen jaw muscles, because their bored the list is long. The Shiba breed is one that loves to chew and if it's not getting the proper mental stimulation it needs it will chew destructively.

Get the dog some toys to redriect it's chewing and pick up your underwear!!! Anything that is in the pups grasp is fair game so be smart and take potentially dangerous items (like fabric!) off the floor and out of reach!

Sounds like Bev needs to get a little closer to the soap!

I hope Bev is saving money for the foreign body removal surgery that may eventually happen. It would be a shame to have to put him down because you can't afford a preventable surgery...

One of my dogs is a sock eater. He steals them out of the laundry hamper and carries them around the house. He even sorts all the clean socks out of the clean laundry, if i leave a basket in the floor.

They like the smells. She can teach her dog the "leave it" command and then if she sees him attacking the undies, she can call him off. Best hope is to put them away and keep them out of reach.
