Where is the cheapest place to live in the USA?

I found a great article on the Forbes website listing the "150 Cheap Places To Live."

They even break them down into categories: Porch-Swing Communities, Happy Hootervilles, IQ Campuses, Steroid Cities, Bohemian Bargains or Telecommuting Heavens.

Lowest cost of living is Mississippi. Rural Alabama, most of Arkansas, northern Louisiana, and Missouri (outside St Louis or KC) are also relatively inexpensive. But the poorest areas are probably Appalachia - the mountains of W. Va, KY & TN. If you build yourself a little shack back in the mountains, living costs would be about as low as possible in the US, but your opportunities to earn enough to live on would be very limited.
