'I'm a crossdresser, what do I wear for my first ever job interview "en femme" ?

I'm mid 30s & been crossdressing for a number of years now, making regular trips out for shopping, the cinema, etc. I haven't confided in my close friends/family about my gender identity issues and although I doubt I'll ever pass as a biological girl, I've decided that I want to express an understated femme appearance in all aspects of my life and now want to take a step forward.

I recently applied for a weekend job in a London shoe shop, never expecting to be asked for an interview, but the company is question has asked me to attend one! I want to be open from the start, so they realise this is who I want to be, but I don't want to make it all about "Oh I'm a cross-dresser!". I'm strugging for an outfit that won't instantly scream "drag queen" but will have a femme undertone. I had thought of just smart bootleg trousers, a two-in-one shirt & simple ballet flats? I'm just so nervous & desparately want the job, but what would girls suggest re. an outfit, shoes & what type of make up?

Update:

I didn't apply as a male or female on the application; I left it very ambiguous.

Okay so your going for a job interview and the first impression is key to getting the job..i recommend you either dress a little bit more male, but add a few feminine touches to it..like were a shirt and some nice jeans and ballet flats..or a tight shirt..anything thats manly but still femme will work well for you..and if your not too comfortable with that..then wear what you normally wear..because that's who you are and if they don't like that then it's their loss....

An outfit that i really recommend is just wear a nice dress shirt.. and some plad shorts..just mix the femme with the manly :)...i hope this helped a bit..and about makeup..just wear some mascara or lip gloss..anything that you like :)

I would suggest smart trousers and top with flat shoes.

Keep make up to a minimum as too much would shout "drag queen", which is what you don`t want.

Have a shave then use a good moisturiser to give your skin a softer look. Then a slick of neutral shade lip gloss.

Personally, I think that anyone should be able to wear what they want without ridicule or discrimination, but sadly, not everyone thinks the same way.

    Good luck with the job.

I think what your suggesting sounds good, it doesn't sound too over the top but should still give the impression that you wish to leave them with. I would maybe tone down the make up ie just some funky nail varnish and eyeliner, they probably won't let male or female employees cake there faces in it anyway, remember less is more.

not a good idea! If you applied as a male, and your app says a male, then guess what, they're expecting a male. If you must.... pinstriped pants, loafers, a blouse with a pattern on it,like chekers or something, and a vest. That way it's all 'either way' apperl. NO MAKEUP!!! If you absoulutly have to either mascara OR eyeliner and a tinted chapstick.

I take it my previous advice did not work?

  • DRESS AS A MAN.

THAT WHAT YOU ARE, DO NOT BE ASHAMED.

GOD LOVES YOU, AND KNOWS YOUR DILEMA.

    PRAY. PRAY. PRAY.

HE MADE YOU A MAN FOR A REASON, LIKE HE MADE ME GROW UP POOR FOR A REASON.

WE JUST DON'T KNOW WHY YET.
