It all depends on where you live for the variety, tomato varieties are different for different area of the US..I have grown a Tomato that is call "Otay Mesa", it is medium size fruit that is real red, juicy and very tasty..if you can find them in your area, try them..really the best overall tomato is a cherry or grape or some other smaller size, they taste so much better..I have also tried a Celebrity and have found they are very good...I would stay away from any of the heirloom or a beef stack, they both seem to be very thick skinned and a little mushy in the meat...good fertilizer is very important..

Wow, from my past gardening experience, I haven't really seen much difference between the different tomato's. Home grown, vine ripened tomatoes are so much better than the store bought, green house (hot house) grown tomato's.
We usually buy our plants from Wal-mart or Lowe's gardening centers. We like the cherry tomato's and also the beefsteak. We haven't went and bought any yet for this year, wanting to do that this weekend.

The Brandywine tomato is an heirloom variety and they are very good.
They can be found at many independent and specialty greenhouses.
For cherry tomatoes try the supersweet 100 variety and be careful because one plant makes a ton of fruit.

I like Tigerella best, medium sized and a yellow stripe on the fruit. Only really does well in a greenhouse, unless we get an exceptional summer. Seeds easily available.

We found the variety "Gardener's Delight" to have the most flavour. A lovely small fruit packed with flavour.
Happy gardening!

Without a doubt, it's Mountain Fresh.
They're as pretty to look at as they are delicious---each tomato is perfectly round, and they're not at all prone to blossom-end rot. I've never had one split, even!
They're juicy, flavorful and firm, and are perfect for slicing.
I've had good luck canning them as well---but my very favorite for canning is Roma.
If you can't find Mountain Fresh, I consider Heinz a close second :)

I like the Oregon Spring the best for flavor, but other parts of the country are not that excited about it.
