Will Jesus welcome people to Heaven who did not know Him here?

The Bible teaches some religious folk expecting to enter Heaven will be turned away.

Matthew 7:

21 “Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven. 22 Many will say to Me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?’ 23 And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!’

Matthew 25

37 “Then the righteous will answer Him, saying, ‘Lord, when did we see You hungry and feed You, or thirsty and give You drink? 38 When did we see You a stranger and take You in, or naked and clothe You? 39 Or when did we see You sick, or in prison, and come to You?’ 40 And the King will answer and say to them, ‘Assuredly, I say to you, inasmuch as you did it to one of the least of these My brethren, you did it to Me.’

Update:

Works come from faith the way water falls down hill, as if you love the Lord you simply can't shut the love IN.

He said "My Kingdom is not of this world".

His Kingdom is not of this earth and He made this clear. I do not believe in an earthly Kingdom.

That passage has spoken to me alot. As a Christian we need to be taught that we are not to fool around, but find the will of God for our lives. Knowing God is not like being in the world, we just can't do what we please. We are to become His servants, die to our own desires. That is scary to think that some will have power to do signs and wonders and still not make it. We need to get away from the "hollywood" type of religion and get on our knees and seek Him. He does not have to entertain us, some come to tickle ears and they are deceiving others. I love this question, thanks.

No, and the explanation is "Knowing him here." To be a proclaimed "Christian" or anything else does not mean knowing Christ, but you will know them by their fruits. (I guess a true Christian, does know Christ, but I don't really like the term Christian, as it was adopted from the way non-believers called believers.)

This has always been the case, as in the parable of the man who was beaten and robbed, but only helped by non-believers.

It doesn't matter what you say you believe, but how you end up treating Christ truly shows if you know him. He is here now, in the greatest and least of his brethren and all of the innocent regardless of what you might think you know or whether you proclaim belief.

True Christianity is a very hidden religion, all around the world, but with no denomination or building Christ is living in the most un-predictable of situations and the smallest of children as well as many of the greatest of humans.

  • I think the righteous spoken of above are believers. We are all given gifts, talents and skills and things to do that are to be used for God's glory, not to be seen by man and receive glory from man. People will see us true, but that should not be our purpose. The works in the first passage was for recognition of man, not because their love of Christ couldn't be held in. The second group will do the works just like you described...like water running down hill, out of their love of Christ so great they cannot not do good works.

This an interesting question because it goes to show that just believing is not enough, we have to do good works as well to justify being allowed to enter Heaven, although Jesus died and shed the last drop of His blood for us we have to show Him that we deserve the fruit of His sacrifice by going out there and helping people.

We all get to go to heaven, BUT what one did with the free gift of salvation that God gave us through His son, Jesus will determine whether or not we will stay at The Great White Throne of Judgement*

Why should i have to justify my answer to you?

Who are you to say this is true or not?

To understand what Jesus is saying. you need to know what he means.

It doesn't matter who did what for who.

Its up to God in the end to decide who can and can't.

It is not up to Jesus.

As he says. No one will enter the kingdom of heaven except by me.

But,its up to God to decide who enters thru the gate.

Those people who never heard about Jesus or because of their own religious beliefs do not believe in Jesus, can still make it to heaven by the way they treat the least of the people. Jesus lives in all people and the way we treat others in this live will determine what happens to us in the next.

The righteous are those who are Born Again, as seen here:

    John 3:3 (New International Version)

3In reply Jesus declared, "I tell you the truth, no one can see the kingdom of God unless he is born again.[a]"

Jesus spoke about His Kingdom on earth. It hasn't happened yet.
