If you live in Portugal, what small item would you like to have from the United States?

I want to bring some small gifts for people who are especially helpful to my son in the hospital in Lisbon. I know it is not expected, but it is something I would like to do. Any good ideas?

We find "exotic" some stuff like:

    - American things like NY, USA flag, hollywood, cowboys, Texas, Jazz (in T-shirts, mugs, etc)

    - NY yankees baseball hats (well they sell them here, but if it's an american bringing them, it is more special)

    - Baseball shirts! We don't see them around here! And believe me, for us portuguese - well, for all europeans - that's a very exotic sport!!! (i simply don't understand the rules...)

PS - You can bring also Angelina Jolie, Scarlett Johanson and Jeniffer Lopez. (i know it's gonna be hard to convience them, but tell them it's for a good cause!) lol

That is a funny but virtuous question.

    Difficult!

If you took some really good food or Californian wine it might go down well ( for acomparison with Portugal's own)

but also bring people some fresh flowers. It is a sing of consideration, which I know Portugues people would like.

That's a nice thought, and they will appreciate it.

It would be hard to get them something really 'right', but here's a suggestion: why not write them a 'voucher', something along the lines of 'This voucher entitles you to stay in my house in the US as my guest for three days when you visit America, please contact me in advance so that I can prepare my house' .... They might not take you up on the offer, and you can always do it with another gift like a bottle of good whiskey or something appropriate to each person.

I would bring them something like candies or something that is hard to get over there but easy to obtain over here. you could even make little kits to take to them. Sorta like a oodie bag type thing. You could ill empty toilet paper rolls with candies then wrap the tube and tie of the ends. You could even get little boxes from craft stores and fill them with little things. I've seen people do that with the chinese to go boxes. (you can find those at craft stores too.)

I was born in Portugal, i am very familiar with Portuguese culture, i live in the U.

S.A.and i am very familiar with the American

culture. Here is my advice to you!..

    Small statue of liberty,

    Bottle of whiskey,

    Box of good quality chocolates,

    Cowboy hat,

There isn't absolutely anything in the U.S.A.

that you can't find in Portugal, and they are

    very much aware of quality.

If you give anything to someone in Portugal,

give quality, otherwise don't give anything,

    after all they don't expect.

with all my due respects to everyone, please

do not bring candy, or clothes to gift to anyone, they will get offended.

    Chocolate... lol

I am originally from Canada - but have moved to Portugal - where all my family is from... and the one thing I miss is the taste of the chocolate back home... even some of the same brands such as Kit-Kats just don't taste the same over here.

There nothing that you can get "over here" that you can't get "over there"... Having said that, something typical of where you come from would be nice. The Californian wine idea would be nice too, at least I'd like that.
