children speak lie for various reasons1.To save them from punishment 2.To be important within sphere of friends and much more.But the most important reason is that actually they follow thier parents habit of doing so.They try to make fools to others because they have seen thier parents do likewise,and hence they imitate. Could be the case. And parents that lie are maybe less likely to punish their children for lying and they have a certain amount of acceptance of the behavior.

very much likely... kids are like a mirror to their parents. parents bring up the children, parents are the first teachers... so it's very possible
