Catamaran is a good hotel with some good food. I live very close to it.
I would recomend getting a vacation rental, you have more flexibility and it would be better value. Alternatively the Hilton Mission Bay is very nice, its the other side of the bay from the Catamaran.
Pacifc beach as a whole is very nice with lots to do and see and you could have a great time. However its very much a flip flop and shorts type of town.
Anything upmarket is looked at with distain. (From the people who make 250k a year and live in 2m homes)
If your looking for an all inclusive Cancun type trip this might not be right but if you are looking for surf, sun, cocktails and moonlit nights there isint a better place.

It's a very nice hotel.
One side of it is right on the beach--those people can just walk right out onto Mission Bay.
At night it is really pretty, lots of palm trees and paths to walk around. Otherwise there really isn't much to do there. They mostly expect that you will be busy during the day and just come back to the hotel at night.
This is in a very busy area and driving back at night can really be stressful, with more chance than other places to get in an accident. I would agree that it isn't that friendly--but good enough if you want to be left alone.

I've had family come into town and stay there a couple of times. Honestly, there is good and bad with this resort. Rooms could use an upgrade. Staff isn't all that friendly. Location is awesome. Restaurant has great food and the bar is a good time.
Honestly, in my opinion for $300 bucks a night your hotel should be perfect. I wouldn't recommend it.

It's a nice place. Have you looked at tripadvisor.com yet? They have the best reviews for hotels. You might prefer the Pacific Terrace instead, just cause it's your honeymoon.

It's a great place. I have sent several friends there when they are in town and everyone loved it.
