my 3 month old refusing to breastfeed?
my 3 month old son has always been a good eater he was born 9 pounds and is now (at 3 months) almost 15 pounds. but in the last 3 days he has been feeding way less! (this is after a 2 day binge drinking where he feed all day. but yesterday he hadnt had a feed in like 3 hours and he just screamed and turned his head everytime i put him into breastfeeding postition never mind near my breast! so in the end i rocked him to sleep (which i usually dont have to do!) then had to wake him up 2 hours later for a feed which he had then but he had gone 5 hours! i wouldnt think anything of it and that he was just not hungry but he seems hungry as he turns his head to the side and sucks as if searching! oh and tried to see if he wanted dummy but no!
i was told by midwife not to let them sleep for longer than 4 hours during the day which he never has done anyway and plus when i woke him up it was our bedtime and i didnt want to fall asleep only to wake up 10 mins later!
he sleeps through night most nights so not always waking him for feed just going on advise of midwife for day time feeds

That is perfectly normal they go through ups and downs feeding. Just feed him when he wants it. My son went through and goes through that still (he will be 6 months old on Thursday). But good luck and just get some much needed rest when he doesn't feed for 5 hours..lol.

I think all babies go through a refusal period. Have you changed anything in your diet or even used a new soap that might be leaving a reside on your skin? Maybe trying a new postion might help. My son is four-mounth olds, the youngest of four, and he went through a phse where he would only eat if he was laying down. Lastly, at the weight you are describing, your son can go six hours without a feeding is my guess. He may be constipated. If he is still making the usual number of wet diapers, then I wouldn't worry about a couple of days strike. Try the La Leache League website for some advice and about.com To help your breast pain, try kneading any hard spots and applying a warm washcloth. Good luck and know it won't last too long.

It's probably nothing to worry about, just a phase he's going through. It is possible that he's teething or has an ear infection (which makes it painful to nurse). Or it could be something you ate or drank that is affecting the taste of your milk. Strong foods like onion garlic and coffee can do that. It's also possible that it's something on your skin he doesn't like the smell of. New soap, lotion or perfume maybe?

Maybe he has a sore throat? I never really kept track of when my kids nursed I just fed them when they were hungry. If I put them to the breast and they turned away I figured they weren't hungry and they had another problem. If he is still wetting diapers I wouldn't worry about it. He'll eat when he's hungry.

that's okay...my daughter sometimes asks like she wants to feed but then when i give her my breast she just screams and cries so i give her the pacifier and she falls asleep..maybe he's just cranky, it will pass i promise! Let him get as much sleep as he can, it might be because you wake him up too much, don't ever wake them up, they grow when they sleep!!
