If you are trying to loose weight, I would suggest staying away from carbonated beverages. They contain more sodium and can cause bloating. Go for bottled water or a juice like cranberry with a lime. Most bars will carry oj, pineapple, cranberry and grapefruit.
Virgin drinks are usually high sugar mixers. A Virgin margarita is just sour mix and ice. Strawberry Daquiri or Pina Coloda mixes contain a lot of sugar and frozen virgin drinks can become a pain to bartenders (even alcoholic ones are annoying). Virgin mojitos (sugar, mint, club soda) are nice for a change.
One suggestion though, no matter what you order, tip your bartender (this includes water). As a bartender in a resturaunt, I find it rude when people order non-alcoholic beverages and pay for it and don't leave a tip.

Good for you! As a former bartender, I can assure you that you do not look like a dork. It is the drunken idiots that look like dorks. However, the only thing you can order at the bar that is not fattening is seltzer water with lemon or lime (if you like it...I don't) or a diet cola with lime which will look like a captain and coke if you ask for a cocktail glass. Anything such as cranberry juice is loaded with sugar

You could always order a soda with a garnish -coke w/lime (could be a rum/Jack/bourbon & coke), orange juice with a little grenadine and a cherry granish (looks like a tequila sunrise), soda water or sprite w/lime or lemon wedge, gingerale, bloody mary mix w/lime garnish...
There's also the frozen virgin drink option - daiquiri, margarita, bahama mama, etc.

Your best bet would be to order one of the following, on the rocks (with a lime or lemon wedge if you want it to look like a real drink):
Water
Soda
Diet Coke, Pepsi, Sprite or 7Up,
Diet tonic

My favorite non-alcoholic drink at a bar is diet tonic and lime. It glows blue in black light, which people think is freaky. I also have diet cola with lime, but it's not as cool-looking.

a lot of bars offer mocktails on there menu....but if not tell them you'd like something like
equal parts cranjuice, marg mix, and pineapple juice shaken and served in a martini glass. its delicious and no alcohol.
and never be scared to just ask the bartender to make up something for you....we love that for either none alcoholic drinks or ones with alcohol...gives us a chance to let our creative side show...
