Are there any decent cheap motels in St. John's, Newfoundland; preferably near the airport.?
We get into St. John's near midnight, so I don't really want to pay over a hundred dollars for a 10 hour stay the first night. Thanks for any info!

Nowhere in St. John's is really very far from the airport, especially with the light traffic around midnight.
The Airport Plaza Hotel/Comfort Inn is just around the corner from the airport - maybe one minute away by taxi and will actually cost about the same as the Super 8. Most likely both will be over $100. It is hard to find a decent cheaper motel in St. John's. Around $100 per night tends to be the "going rate". The Governor's Inn Motel (used to be the Kenmount) on Elizabeth Ave. used to be cheaper, but it has had major renovations in recent years, and so may now be more expensive. Holiday Inn, Hotel St. John's, Journey's End, The Battery, etc. will probably all have similar rates.
If you want to consider a B&B, there are many really neat ones in St. John's, but even there the going rate is usually about $45 to $50 a night for one person, though I don't think it is double that amount for a couple sharing a room.
The Prescott Inn Hotel is a B&B on Military Road. It is clean and comfortable and friendly. The number is (709) 753-6036. The Fort William is another at (709) 726-3161 or fax (709) 726- 4525. There is one called the Gower Street House at (709) 754-0047. There are others, but these are the only ones I have actually stayed in. They're quite close to downtown and the harbour - very easy walking distance - and are in the historic part of the city. They are no more than about 10 minutes from the airport, and offer a good option to the pricier motels.
I hope this information is of some help. Enjoy your stay in St. John's.

Super 8 motel. About five minutes drive from the airport. Don't take the orange taxis parked at the airport, they over charge. Call Jiffy Cabs (yellow taxis). 722-2222.
