What is a good adjective to describe Wm. Grant Still, Afro-American Symphony?

I'm writing radio ad copy for a concert. The first word that comes to mind for this piece is "colorful", but I obviously can't use that (nor "soulful"). Does anyone who knows this piece have one or two words which "nail" what the piece is?

Update:

Whippersnapper: there are Still pieces I like better than that one, just like Finlandia is not Sibelius' best piece, nor is the Hanson 2nd his. But it is his "signature piece" and gets done a lot. It's very well orchestrated and attractive; I just find it cheaply eclectic, sorta Bernsteiny. I'm involved with this because my own symphony is also on the program.

Vibrant, rich, poignant, moving...wow, this is a good question. I really love the piece and colorful would sounds so good! How unfortunate that its so un-PC.

Colorful would be considered racist by some. I did his music last year with the symphony, and didn't like it at first, but it grew on me.
