What is more important for me to do, fix my roof or take my wife on vacation (Las Vegas)?

edit: a true story, my dear grandmother once told me that the reason a dutchman never fixes the leak in a roof is because when it's raining he can't and when it's not raining there is no need to. (I'm dutch so I get to tell that joke)

edit: Wayne, a couple of missing shingles? Am I going to have to drive from Tennessee to Arkansas to hammer down a couple of shingles so you and your bride can enjoy some time in Las Vegas?...lol

Uncle Wayne, Come on now. I've done roofing, A square of shingles will cost you around $40 and a few pounds of roofing tacks another $3, It'll take you around 2 hours to re-roof a square of shingles. Do em both and quit yer whining. LOL

PS, a square of shingles is a 10 x 10 foot section. If you're only missing a few shingles, then a square should cover ALL the damage plus a little bit around the damaged area.

Take your wife to Vegas, I'm sure she needs the vacation. As far as the roof is concerned, slap a couple of shingles up there and you're good to go (just don't fall off the roof or your vacation will be ruined). lol!

If coming in the warmer weather I would suggest Mandalay Bay. They have a fantastic pool. The Venetian is really nice and their rooms are suites so you are in real luxury. However the Luxor is real nice. You might try Planet Hollywood. They are just finishing up a total remodel from the Aladdin and I hear nothing but good things about them. If you want to stay off the strip you might like the Rio. The Palms is geared more for the singles crowd and more of a party atmosphere. Stay away from Circus Circus. Too many kids there. Stratosphere, Sahara and the Riviera are too far up the strip and seem to be out of the action. A good favorite is the Mirage. Not crazy about their pool and TI doesn't have a pool and you have to go to the Mirage to use theirs. Just some things to think about. Have fun .. you won't be in your room too much while here. Too much to see and do.

Vegas, you can bet the money that you were going to use to fix the roof. After you win a couple of million then you can forget the roof and just buy a new house. Trust me, your wife will thank you later.

Fix the roof! Las Vegas is the armpit of America. Plan a nice trip to some seashore instead.

The wife's needs come first. Go to Las Vegas. But then again, how bad is that roof?

Fix the roof...that is most important. BUT...don't forget your wife. We women need to know that you care about what we want. So fix the roof, then take her on a surprise, short weekend trip somewhere you can easily afford. If she complains, remind her how wet she will get if the roof leaks!

Okay, I need clarification. . .when you say "fix my roof" can I assume it is her roof too? And are you talking about fixing it as in having some one come repair it or are you talking about you getting up on the roof and fixing it? Also does fixing the roof preclude going on vacation because you do not have the money to do both? Or because you don't have the time to do both?

My answer based on the assumption that the roof is both yours and your wife's and that you can't go on vacation and fix the roof too because of finance. . .I would say fix the roof.

Now if the roof is both of yours and you can't fix it and go on vacation at the same time, I would say pay some one to fix the roof and go on vacation.

How bad is the roof. Are we talking no sleep when it rains, or can it wait?

I'd probably do Vegas. Leave the wife and fix half the roof.
