Who is the most overrated player...ever?
I've reviewed the other couple of questions on this for football, and they chose Mike Vick and Joe Montana...*weird look* As much as I would like to agree with Vick, I doubt it was him. Def. not Joe.
So who was it? Who do you think is the most overrated NFL player ever?

Vick was the first name that came to mind. I mean, for all of the hype around him, he was terrible throwing the ball, and never led his team to a SB. Somebody must've said Montana as a joke...
If you disqualify Vick, I'll go with Emmitt Smith as most overrated ever. I mean, he's the all-time leading rusher, so people put him in the conversation for best RB ever. But I can name a litany of RBs with more talent than him. If they had played as long as him, the record would be unreachable.
Jim Brown
Barry Sanders
Walter Payton
Gayle Sayers
LaDanian Tomlinson (obviously still active)
Terrell Davis
Edgerrin James (injuries slowed him down)

All of them serve a purpose. Well, not overrated, necessarily, but the other two certainly do. What do you call a guy who wears a Black Sabbath T-shirt and only knows "Paranoid" and "Iron Man"? What do you call a person who says his favorite Pink Floyd song is the Wall? How do you disparage a person who claims to be a prog fan, but thinks Van der Graaf Generator is a German band? How, how, I ask you! And how would we define bands like Kiss? Sure, for some bands it's a change in artistic orientation, but when the adjustment is made SOLELY for the purpose of attaining more money, as was the case with Kiss, how do we explain that? How, how, HOW? I ask you! MQ: Overrated sell-out band with poser fans? Overrated - Led Zeppelin Sell-out - Genesis Poser fans - Radiohead So Led Genesishead. Got it. MQ2: Not really. I don't go to many concerts. MQ3: Posers aren't overrated or underrated, they just 'are'. Like AC/DC. Not bad, certainly not good...they just 'are'. MQ4: What an overrated question. Y!A sold out because of people like you. You're such a freaking poser. God! ...Man, people actually think this way, don't they? BQ: Poser - Someone who claims to have knowledge about a topic or in an area where they really know very little. Sell-out - An artist who made some type of drastic artistic change that was more immediately accessible than their original or previous style. Overrated - An artist or group that has attained some type of following, and is thus over-rated and put on a pedestal by his/her/its fans.

Hands down, Joe Namath.
In 12 years with the Jets, he only led them to 3 winning seasons, only had more than 20 TD passes twice, threw more interceptions than TD's 10 times and only completed 50% of his career passes.
Yet, just because he "guaranteed" a Super Bowl win (by his own admission, he never said "guarantee") and played the free-wheeling playboy role in front of the headline hungry New York media, he gets all the credit. Even though the Jets DEFENSE intercepted the Colts 3 times and Matt Snell ran for 121 yards in that SB, Namath got the MVP with a mediocre 206 yards and 0 TD's.
There has never been a more unworthy HOF election.

Tom Brady is over rated. What ever happend to 19 and 0. He is a great QB but nowhere close to the grattest John Elway

Tony Romo, very overrated.
Granted he has the potential to be a good QB, and he manages to be play good at times.
But he cant stay focused.
I would have to say he is one of the most unstable QBs there is.
I'm so sick of hearing how great he is, and how is gonna be the next Joe Montana.
I so dont see that happening, at least not anytime soon.
Oh yeah 8 thumbs up.. thats a first =)

I gotta pile on to Ryan Leaf as most overrated...and as a side note I gotta thank Sam C...that might have been the dumbest comment I have seen in a long time...thanks for the laugh.

RYAN LEAF! No question! And to think he was drafted the same year as Payton Manning and considered to be just as good at the time!
"While serving a 4 game suspension, a video surfaced of Ryan Leaf playing flag football in Ocean Beach,Ca while he was supposed to be rehabilitating his shoulder and wrist injuries. This incident marked the beginning of the end for Ryan Leaf in San Diego. After the video surfaced, the Chargers filed a grievance against Ryan Leaf citing a breach of contract for participating in activities detrimental to the team. The Chargers sought to recover $2.95 million of his $11.25 million signing bonus as well as use the incident as leverage to shorten the length of his contract."
TOTAL WASTE OF TIME AND MONEY!
