What are the chances of a 25 year old man convicted and sentenced as a felon in joining the Military to serve his country?

Depends on the degree and severity of the charge. Also how long ago the charge was. But if you have one felony, you might be able to get in if it isn't drugs, sexual assault, terrorist threats...etc etc.
However, a felony is waiverable "technically", but it depends on what you did if USAREC or any other recruiting command wants to let you in. You're chances are slim, but don't even try joining my Army, or any other branch if you haven't straightened your As$ out.
We need good people, not people who will put other soldiers at risk.
So if you think your ready to stop getting in trouble and bull$hitting, go talk to a recruiter and find out for sure if you have a chance.
All that said...Good luck
Source(s): Had a "moral waiver"...not for any felonies, but even that was tough. P.S...I know it can be tough getting the past behind you sometimes, but like I said, if you are really ready then step up and give it your best..It may not work out, but you can't say you didn't try to give back to the great country that gave you a second chance.. - hmeetisLv 41 decade ago
There is a chance you might be able to join you will have to talk to a recruiter about the spacifics though and they will be able to find out if they can get a waiver. I imagine that this is just one of the many difficultys you have probably had after the conviction. I hope you have straightened out and are simply trying to find a way to make a good honest and decent living because in the military you better believe there is a reason the UCMJ is often refered to as the unfair military code of justice. You might as well be guilty untill proven innocent if you are ever court marshaled and if you earn yourself a dishonarable discharge from the military it will haunt you far worse then most felony convictions ever could ( i believe NEVER being able to own land is one concequence of a dishonarable)
On the lighter side assuming you are a reformed man i wish you the best of luck and wish you a good and healthy military career.

Take a look at the link. See if you find yourself. If you are on Parole or Probation wait until you are not. Walk into a Recruiting Office. Tell the Sgt what you did, when you did it, the sentence, your PO's name and phone number. If it was a violent crime, a weapon was involved or it was a drug charge I believe you are SOL.
NO HARM TO ASK THOUGH.

its going to be difficults, not impossible it all depends on the felony which you were convicted of. I believe if you go to GoArmy.com and do some digging you can come up with the list of felonies which automatically rule you out.
If your not on the list go and talk to the recruiter about it and see if they think they will be able to get a waiver for it.

I doubt you have a chance.
