after land rover what is the next best 4x4 in the world?

If it is stock...Kia Sorento by far. In Europe hundreds of people take their Sorentos on off-road trips as a group. More people do this than any other brand, therefore, making Kia Sorento the best off-roader.

Although Land Rovers might be better off-road, they're not much use if they keep breaking down. I would go for a Japanese 4 x 4. A few years back, I had a Mitsubishi Shogun Pinin, a small 4x4 with a 2 litre engine, plus low range gears and lockable centre diff. Very capable, totally reliable, but I got rid because of fuel consumption and high insurance cost. Now, I drive a supermini, but I still miss that 4x4.

I would say the Unimog or the Pinzgauer, but they may come before the Land Rover.

from my experience .. in our region .. we use alto of 4x4 .. and the best cars ever made in this series are Japanese cars ... they are power-full .. and strong body .. durable .. and very little problem you will face in the life time of the car .. i mean you can run those cars for 200,000 KM without any major problem .. just the regular service .. in ower region .. its verrrrry hot weather .. so it reaches 50 degrees maybe more in the summer .. we use those cars in the desert .. with air-condition is on .. and its COLD to !!! :)

trust me .. go for Japanese .. less electronics means less problem .. i mean problem that has no obvious reasons .. like you will face when you use a German car in such hot weather .. !

So if you want to choose .. go for TOYOTA Land cruiser ... or maybe you can go for FJ-Cruiser .. or any other of the TOYOTA 4x4 family .. Nissan is good .. but they are fuel consuming cars .. !
