Epona's answer is very good. If you look up color associations you will find different associations depending on who has written them and what systems they are drawing from. But you should always use associations that make sense to you. For example - you will probably find that light blue is the color associated with peace. But depending on what type of peace you are going for you might select a different color. Maybe pink if it's for peace in the family or with friends, purple if it's spiritual in nature, or green if it's body related. The associations I tend to go with are: Red - lust, action, energy, courage Orange - creativity, courage, energy (more creative type than the red). Yellow - things pertaining to the mind (like maybe you've got a test to study for) or intellectual inspiration. Light Green - prosperity Dark Green - healing Light Blue - peace, tranquility Dark Blue - dreams, sometimes inspiration Purple - things dealing with the spiritual White - purification and can be a stand in for almost anything Black - releasing negativity, banishing Pink - love, friendship, family I don't believe there is any color that should be avoided. But I often use a different association than what I've listed. And my associations are only valid for another person if they make sense to them. I use white candles most frequently as I always have them on hand and they can always be "spiced up" with different oils which is something I do fairly often.
