Why do so many Christians and Muslims insult the rest of us who follow a different path?
I know that asking for respect and decency has, thus far, seemed almost impossible to get, but as Pagans, Atheists, Agnostics, Druids, Buddhists, Deists, Hindus, etc., many of us get very insulted by being called "non-believers".
Isn't anyone who follows a religion a believer?
Why not be more respectful of others and call us all "non-Christian" or "non-Islamic"?
Why is it so much to ask for the same respect for us and our faiths that you would want for yourself and your faith?
To A Proud Muslim; It is the Christians that call all Muslims terrorists, not us Pagans, so aim your anger at those that deserve it.
To those who have demonstrated their respect with a serious and respectful answer, and those who do in the future, your respect is appreciated.
To PitX5; you make some very valid points, but the respecting of others has to start somewhere. As Pagans, we do not call others "non-believers", thus discounting the validity of their faith, as many have done. And while I don't speak for all of the Pagans in these forums, I know that I have made every effort to educate and teach others of the facts of my beliefs with no other expectation than developing understanding. That, too is respect for other religions, since we don't seek to convert anyone, just elimination of disinformation.

I apologise for my brothers & sisters who were insensitive to your belief. I would not criticize any on efor the belief or lack of belief-- ubless they were disrespectable & provoking. God did not ask us to go out in the world to condemn the human race on religious hate as so many think is the way. I would not want to convert to a religion that provokes people to hate one another & kill eachother. That is not the way to witness. Welcome, friend, from: a Christian

I don't know that the labels would change the tone of the relationship between faiths. Certainly, the conversation between people of different faiths should be more civil. But Christians (I won't speak for Muslims) believe our faith is true. And if our faith is true, then other religions must be, well, non-true. And if we find others following that non-truth, we are fairly rotten and uncaring people if we refuse or fail to help them understand the truth. A person that follows a "different path," as you put it, is equally uncaring and rotten if they do not respectfully try to help others understand truth. For those who don't really "believe" the object of their faith but merely find it a useful fiction for coping with life, this is hard to understand.
Of course, we are also fairly rotten and uncaring people when we present God's truth and love in a judgmental and insulting way. And for that, I apologize.

I have no problem calling someone a non christian but unless you tell me what you are it's kind of hard. Example what would I call an Atheist? They seem to want to be called that.
Even though you are not entirely correct. I give no respect for being a christian. Just look at the things they say about Christians in this forum. It doesn't matter I'm not looking for their respect.

No offense meant and perhaps you have a bigger gripe you aren't divulging in this question, but being called a non-believer is much better than a hypocritical, deluded imbecile with a mind virus. I hope you understand :-)
And I do want to add that I make it a point to be very respectful, even if I disagree with someones stance. I hope that is seen in answers that me and some of my brethren have here that even in disagreement of issues, there is respect and love for the other worldviews.
Gods peace

I am afrid that this disrepect is DEFINATEY a two way street! It depends on what you would characterize as "respect and decency." I have seen Christians repeatidly answer the mocking questions of the same "faiths" you have mentioned. Then these same people cry foul when Christians cite God's word as to why they hold such belifs.
Athiests most freqent taunts include blind, stupid, non-scientific and ignorant provided you don't agree with them. Then they cry foul when you link them with communists although athiesm is one of the founding principles of communism. If you doubt then feel free to read either Mao, Marks or Engles for verification.
Hindus have the same "prejudices" and I site as examples the cast system currently in place in India or the fact that Pakistan had to seperate from India because Hindu's and Muslims would not stop killing each other. If you doubt feel free to study your history texts about these two countries.
Druids are in no better position to cast stones as they used to kill Christians based purely on their beliefs.
The list goes on and on, but hopefully you will get my point. "First cast the beam out of thy own eye before attempting to pull the mote out of mine." It should be the hope/prayer of all Christians that you will come to know of God's great and freely given gift of salvation. This is not intolerance, it is called love. May God bless you and keep you in his loving hands forever. Amen.

Christianity and Islam are the only faith's I have ever run across that INSIST they are the ONLY truth.

Since they cannot use logic, they use insults. But you are lucky. In the old days they killed you. And in Muslim countries they still do it.
- Anonymous1 decade ago
Because they simply cannot comprehend that others don't believe in their dogma, and that their Bible doesn't apply to people who don't believe in it. Christians think everybody else *must* know there's a God, and that they're just deliberately rebelling against him.

Well i try not to insult people. I stay nice all the time and respect the ones that insult me. But i mean if "non-believer" insults you, how would you feel if you were called a terrorist 24/7?

Those that terrorize you are not true Christians or Muslims, and they have a twisted view on God.
Peace be with you.
