unless your flow is tight, the best beats are slower ones with a very easy rhythm. These allow the free-styler time to think of his/her next line.

The homemade beats people leave on youtube are pretty good. Ive freestyled over many youtube beats. Most of the guys are pretty professional and know how to produce quality sound. Otherwise whip out some instrumentals off cd singles or 12" which are nice to freestyle over also. My fav freestyle beat is "who shot ya" by biggie.

instrumental joints just get a heap of 12" and rap over the instrumentals sometimes even the tracks you don't like with vocals sound good instrumentally or suit your rhyming style better.
