Wireless internet question ?
My neighbour has a wireless internet connection and kindly lets me use it for free. Is there anything I can do to 'boost' my notebooks ability to get a stronger signal? Thank you.

I fail to see how some people think this is illegal when you have been given permission. What about open access wireless in public libraries - the same logic would make these illegal too!
Anyway, 'boosting' your signal: this will depend on your O/S & hardware configuration. If you are using a Windows machine, then look in 'Device Manager' for your wireless network adapter (my example is an Intel adapter) . On the 'Advanced' tab (assuming there is one) look for 'Transmit Power' or similar & set this to maximum. You may also need to change the power management (battery saving) settings too.
Good luck.

Yeah, its absolutely not illegal... you are merely connecting to their wireless network, you could be gaming or file sharing between you or many, many other things.. it is what wireless is all about!
Sharing internet access with another household MAY be against the neighbour's contract, but that is the neighbour's call and frankly I very much doubt it is against the contract.
You could use a Wireless Access Point / Range Extender (about £35 from PC World) between their router and your PC somewhere to carry the signal better between you. I used to share a house and we had another adapter on the second floor of a three storey house to boost it up to the top floor better. It will need to be plugged in when you use it, so may not be suitable.

If the neighbour also didint want them or anyone with wireless acess that others can access didnt want people to, the cn change settings saying do not share network conection, and put what they want to share with ie home apparells

Try to get your notebook position as close as poss to the position of the wireless router in your neighbours house, or if they are very nise neighbours perhaps they may reposition their router to improve your signal.
P.S Its not illegal if you are sharing with permision, we dont have Broadband Police knocking on doors yet !!

It is only illegal if they have a password protecting their internet and you hack throught it. Seing as they have no password and they are actualy offering it to them it is completely fine....
On the signal front just make sure your as close as you can egt to their router and make sure there is nothing static such as a tv in the room. Stacic completely screws up the signal.

stronger signal from the kind neighbor or from someone else?
If you are getting a signal from one's house, I think it is illegal in some countries. So be careful...

it all depends on how far your neighbour modem is from you. You may want to check for a wireless adaptor with longer range.

To be perfectly honest, your espionage, counter-espionage and double-whammy euphemistic Jezza Kyle stronger signal how's your father whip-ma-whop-ma-gate has me reaching for the Home Office's counter-intelligence hotline.
Unless of course, you're being a Scousoid scally, in which case let sunbed Sheilas lie.
