Paddling the Channel?

We're experienced kayakers. If a few of us wanted to paddle across the channel (England to France) what would we need to organise.

Do we have to get permission to use a shipping lane?

Are we required to have a safetyboat?

Thans for any help.

Definately let someone know you are doing this journey, plan according to weather. Even experienced kayakers can get into trouble. Rent or pack your radios, for communication (check batteries), well you know what safety gear to pack, I would recommend a safety boat. Your in the open waters and having the safety boat is reassuring, knowing that if anything happens, they are there to rescue you. I am not sure about permission to use a shipping lane, but alert the coast guards of what your plans are.

Good lucik on your journey! Paddle On!
