US Debt & the Kuwait War. Did you know?

This question/comment comes as an offshoot from a YA! question the other day. The asker didn't know why we invaded Iraq. But, in addition, many also said they didn't know why we fought the first Gulf War to liberate Kuwait.

With the latest news on US debt, I figured it out. Kuwait holds $1.4 trillion in US debt. That is 35% of our foreign debt. Thus, the more we rely on foreigners to support or economy and social programs, the more obligated we become to defending them from hostile takeover. In the case of Kuwait, they did repay us/forgive sufficient funds to pay for the war effort back then. Not sure if today's issues in Iraq still relate to Kuwait. But, it's something to think about.

You sited an excellent example of how money really does rule our actions. I'm certain that if China didn't have our debt on their books we would be boycotting the upcoming Olympics. The world market is a complicated "nutshell" game.

It should also be noted the Kuwaiti people were busy going to nightclubs while the Americans were forcing out the Iraqis.

Source(s): To poster right below me.The Serbian conflict of less than 10 years ago was a USA led NATO assault against the Serbian forces. the NATO forces were helping Albainian muslims. I do not think oil played any part of this action.

All of it is about, and all it has "Ever" been about is OIL, plain and simple. If it were for the "W.M.D.'s Saddam had, where the hell are they? Where's the "Nuclear-Program" he is supposed to have had? If we had not got Iraq out of Kuwait back then, there is no-telling how much Saddam would have charged us for their Oil, if he sold it to us at all that is. So We got them out. It helped us with our debt like you said, And made us even better friends with the Kuwaiti's. Now, this time, It W.M.D.'s, Nuclear Plants, A Tyrant in power using chemical weapons to kill Kurds. Okay, Here is what I say, We could have sent in just 2-teams of the Special-Forces, Army or Seals, it would not have mattered, and killed Saddam, and his whole damn family inside of 4 days, been in-and-out, all of them dead, before they even knew we were there. I spent over 20 years in the U.S. Army Special Forces, I am not just talking to hear my head roar. Okay we did not do that. We went full-steam ahead, "Full-Invasion" to get these WMD's, and all the other things. For the life of me, I have yet to see just "One" WMD, or just "One" Nuclear-Plant, Or just "One" anything except a damn OCEAN Of OIL that country sit's on. Saddam is dead, his sons are dead, all of his cronies are dead, or in other countries hiding like the cowards they are, and yet we still sit there trying to install a "Democracy" to a people that have been fighting "Jihad's" or "Holy-Wars" since the days of Christ. Why? Saddam is gone, His son's are gone, No Nuclear stuff, No WMD's, Why are we still there? Are we trying to make them like America? Hell-No. We could care less if every-single one of them fell off the face of the earth. We are there because the OIL is there, and we dont have to pay a damn red-cent for ANY of it. sure, The public is told that they are getting their revenues from it, But I know sure as hell they are not getting "Nothing" from it at-all. we now have access to all of their Oil at the cost of just 4,000 American boy's life's so-far. As far as the anti-christ "Bush", and the "Bushstapo"" are concerned, thats a damn good and fair price! After all, it's not their 17 and 18 year old kids coming back with PTSD, Lost-Limb's, and what have you. There all doing just fine at their Ivy-League College's, or Cushy 7-Digit-a-year jobs with Companies like "Halliburton", Who just happens to be the biggest private contractor in Iraq. And who also used to have "Cheney" as a CEO. Cheney was chief executive officer of Halliburton from 1995 to 2000. Making more sense now? The nation of Iraq is running like a car without water in the radiator, But their damn Oil-Feilds are running like a well-greased machine arent they? Pipe-line has not even got a "Scratch" on it from what I have heard from returning Vet's. Even though it, along with the oil-wells are sabotaged on an almost daily basis. The damage if fixed faster than it happens. This so called "War" has NOTHING to do with "Anything" Nuclear, Anything to do with "WMD's", Nor does it have Anything to do with the "Saddam-Regiem" as was the case before the invasion. It's about the liquid-gold my friend, It's about OIL. "Blood-For-Oil" as I say. Anyways, I think I have probably said too much as it is. Sorry for getting carried away, But it kill's me to see our boy's getting killed over there buy trying to help a nation that wont bother to help itself, and will continue to fight amongst themselves until the end of time in my opinion. I did 3-consecutive-tours of Vietnam, Another waste of fine American youth. We fought with our hands tied behind our backs then, and the enemy was not wearing "Black-Pajama's" With a name like "Ho Chi Min". The real enemies in that War had names like "Johnson", and "Westmoreland" and wore suits and fatigues. Anyways, I have got myself all worked up now, and just need to calm down for a bit. I hope this gave you some idea on whats going on, I really do. Take Care my friend. Rocky K.
