Babyproofing?

I've been looking online for ways to baby proof my house and some of it just seems to go overboard. Can you guys tell me the must haves of baby proofing. I have a few gates to stop my son from crawling up/down stairs as well as to keep him in one room at a time so I can better keep an eye on him. I have locked my cabinets/drawers so he cant' get into them. I have put outlet plugs in. Is there anythign I'm missing?

Also - my son as a fascination with cords. Is there anyway to hide them/make them less attractive/make them less accessible?

Thanks so much!

I use trash bag ties to tie up my electrical cords, but I don't know if that makes them baby proof. You can tie your cords up higher also where he can't reach, but if he already learned how to move stuff around and climb on them then that might be a problem.

Yes, If you have any furniture without rounded corners like sharp edges, get corner pads to cover them especially coffee tables and beds. It's better to have wood tables instead of glass being that babies like to bang on them with toys. My daughter cut the side of her mouth on the corner of our iron table, put a hole right through it and had to get stitches. Now she's left with a scar on the right corner of her lip. If you have mini blinds make sure the cords are tied to be short especaially if you have a couch close near blinds where baby could crawl on the couch and gain access to the blinds. Make sure all furniture can't be moved/tilted if baby uses them to pull up on. About the cords, get one of those cord covers (www.cableorganizer.com) that you can put lots of cords in while still plugged into the wall.

You got all the baby proof down! Now for the cords you have to try to hang it out of way or hide them behind something!Try to run cords under the carpet You need play pen so you can watch your son closer!

Stairs and outlets are the big ones. The best thing you can do is to get down on your hands and knees to crawl around and see what the house looks like from his vantage point. You might see a few safety issues that you wouldn't have seen otherwise.

My house (Mum is a grandma) it ferret/pet/child proofed. Lower cabnets are accessable but void of anything hurtful. There's tupperware, pots, plastic dishes that they babies can play with. We also used ferret gates around the entertainment unit to keep everything out of the cords.

How about a Baby Helmet ?

What work well for us with cabinet/drawers is what ever our baby could open became his toy drawer. We empty that drawer and filled it with his toys .He would keep busy dumping it out and it was an easy clean up. We just threw all the toys back in. It worked great. Rich

what you have done is about all you can do. provide things that will keep his interest to get his mind off of the cords. covering them, hiding them is a good way to get them out of sight. after all, out of sight, out of mind.

You can get cord wraps or you can tuck them behind furniture or even construction paper ;-)
