What is the biggest misconception people hold about your belief system?

for me personally:

Misconception from fellow Christians: that they (Christians) have the right to judge who goes to heaven or who goes to hell.

Misconception from others: that I am an indoctrinated ignoramus who is just following along with what I've been fed.

And I too am very very tired of hearing that Atheists and others do not have morals. Everyone has morals - it's just that some, (on both sides of that coin) often don't put them into practice.

Drives me crazy when people say that Jesus is NOT God. I mean if you read the Bible, there are TONS of Scriptures that tells us other wise, even in the OT. I dont think that they are reading the Bible.

Never the less, either way when you are denying Jesus, you are denying God! Here are just a FEW of the MANY scriptures about Jesus being GOD-

I don't really know where I stand right now and am in the process of trying to figure it out.

I just finished reading Letter to a Christian Nation. I took it with me everywhere and read a little when I got a free moment. This area is almost totally Christian, so I had to explain to them what the book was about. They would always (every single time) ask if I was a Christian. I'd say not really and they would ask me what I was. I would tell them I wasn't sure and always get weird looks.

I just started The God Delusion and one of my friends saw it. She is a southern baptist...and asked what the book was about. When I tried to explain it to her, she acted as if it was a sin to read something from an atheist...

Actually, what drives this atheist more buggy than that is the idea that we actually DO believe in the Sky Bully.

It's freakin' amazing how many people just don't get that we don't!

We "don't like" god; fear god and don't want to admit that we're sinners who will burn. Some just refuse to consider the possibility that we just don't buy the concept of god.

Others seem incapable of grasping the notion of disbelief.

That and that we "morphed from dust" (that is, the various, truly insane, descriptions of evolution according to the fundies -- wacked to the max).

That Jewish rabbonism is for real, considering God has not spoken to the Jews since before 600 BC. The marriage between God is the same in OT and NT, he is your lord , your husband , sin = destruction in both parties. live his way = life etc..

Xtian biggest fallacy about their side, that they actually y know what they are talking about. Wait, to those who understand this, Jew alike, if your Tanakh, or Bible is truly the standard of your life, a Disciple of Christ, you see how many deceived xtians there is out there, Same with the ones that understand in Judaism.

Ok, since we're venting...I dont believe in religion...but I guess I hold alot of New Age ideals...

Anyway, the most outlandish idea I have heard and hear is that we are the anti-christ.

That we are trying to brain wash Christians and sway them to join us.

It drives me nuts!!

If that was truly the case, I've been cheated because no one tried to "woo" me...I liked to be "wooed"...LOL

In any event, that's my two cents, and Im trying to get better at not letting it bothering me so much.

That if I study the Bible and try to follow Jesus that I must hate all gay/lesbian people and anyone who doesn't think exactly the way I do. It's 2008 - I am fully aware not everyone thinks exactly as me - and I accept it and even appreciate it. I have many friends of various faith/religious backgrounds and friends with none (atheists). I choose who to include in my life based on the content of their character - not on if they agree with every single religious belief I have. And I know many many Christians who are like me in this way - so I don't consider this to be a "rare" way of thinking.

I think the biggest misconception many Christians have about Christianity is that they have the authority to determine who God is sending to hell!! You're gay? Well, it's straight to hell for you!! You cheated on your spouse? Ooo, you're gonna burn for that one.

I hate to knock it to 'em but they don't decide that. God does!! I've been taught that God is a god of grace and that He loves us. As a parent don't you want what's best for your children? If they do wrong are you going to boot them out of you family? Yeah, me either. I'll love 'em and forgive 'em and hope they'll do better.

There are other misconceptions about Christianity but that's one of the biggest. Well, other than thinking it's a farce but that's a whole other soapbox! LOL!!!

I forgot to say that I know some atheists don't have morals but then some Christians (and Jews, and Muslims etc...) don't either. You don't have to be religious to have morals.

RELIGION! It's easy, not hard like religion has taught us, to get to heaven with God. And what makes you think atheists have no morals. They can be very good people that just don't happen to believe in the existance of God.

It burns me up because people think that Muslims are the worst people alive.

Everyone believes that what they see on television, read in the news paper and feed by the media is how Muslims really are.

Why are extreme Christians persecuted. They have extremist and terrorist as well.

I am sick of being judged by people because of someone else does. One bad apple doesn't spoil the whole darn tree.
