Getting a job with knuckle tattoos?
I'll admit right now that I was once very young and very impressionable. At the age of seventeen I got knuckle tattoos. I haven't had trouble getting menial paying-off-college jobs but I'm now a 22-year old senior in college, looking to start a professional career soon. I'm an English major with a minor in Education...I really want to be an English teacher. I'm definitely qualified and certain I'll get the job except for my darn tattoos! I can't think of a good way to cover them up. What should I do? Should I say something to my employer about them, if they ask, or if I see them looking at them? I'm really nervous and really hating myself for this right now. I really want this job so badly.

My english professor in college had a tattoo in the palm of his hand. I went to a private catholic high school so the teachers had a very strict code for appearances. I guess it depends on what grade or kind of school you want to teach at. I'm sure the public school are not as strict as my very up tight alma mater! If you are still in doubt, use make up! It may suck, but you gotta do what you gotta do!!!

Since getting a tattoo removed can be expensive, and not all of us are blessed with that much money, I say use cover up. i'm sure you're friends with women who know their make-up. Ask them for a good brand of cover up and tell them to teach you to cover it so you can do it at home before the interview. Whether or not you do this, is up to you. Either way I don't think you'd have that much of a problem getting the job because of them. However, some people, such as older men and women, are stuck in their times meaning "if God wanted you to have a tattoo, he'd put it there when you were born", if the employer is like this, although, to me, a stupid way to judge someone, then you might have a problem. I say use the cover up just in case.
Best of Luck!

I have to say that it would be very hard to get hired as a teacher (unless it was at a college or university, maybe a high school) with knuckle tattoos. The reason I think that is because parents might feel uncomfortable. Also, tattoos where they can be easily seen by younger students) might distract them. It also depends on what they say--if it's something that could be construed as offensive or crude, you probably wouldn't get the job. If you're not attached to them, you should look into getting laser surgery.
P.S. I'm all for tattoos (I have one myself that I LOVE) but next time you get one, think about the main rule of getting tattoos...only get them where they can be easily covered up!

Stop hating yourself... I had a high school teacher with the creepiest anchor tattoo on his forearm that he got when he was in the Navy about 30 years before. When the warmer months came, he had no problem rolling up his sleeves and disgusting the entire class. He actually wasn't a bad teacher though. Knuckle tattoos are a bit harder to hide. Invest in some good cover-ups/ heavy duty concealers (they're good for scars and tattoos and lots of people make them) and start saving for some laser removal surgery and congrats on making it this far. Don't let this stop your professional aspirations.

I have tattoos all over the place to include my throat, both neck sides and back.. the back of my hands, knuckles, and in one palm. I have almost full sleeves on both arms.
I have never had a problem getting a job. I am currently a training manager for Ace Hardware, and I've had other jobs in between to include owning my own businesses. I currently own and operate my own business to coincide with my full time job at Ace Hardware.
Sorry you are having such a hard time with getting work, but sometimes I think you have to make sure people see past your tattoos.
Attitude, knowledge, and professionalism are a MUST!
p.s. I would NEVER think of getting my tattoos removed. They are forever a part of me, and that is how it will stay. I don't let that affect my professionalism around other people though. Good LUCK!

Wow...I really feel for u!! Early congrats on your degree, you should be very proud!!!! I'm sure you'll make a wonderful teacher.
Regarding your question, If a all possible I would have the knuckle tats removed as soon as possible. Maybe use some student loan $, family or get a loan if possible? It might cost you around a grand but I think you would be so much happier. I wish you all the best.

tattoos are becoming more acceptable everyday...i wouldnt worry about it.
there is a make up you can use called dermablend. it has many uses to cover things up, and stays on in water. its usually used for people with scars or when people want to cover a tattoo up for a wedding or something. ive used it and its the best stuff to use. i would def reccommend it. and about the job, would u really want to work somewhere where they wouldnt hire you because of a tattoo? would you want to be treated like that? i wouldnt want that for anyone. everyones been young, been through ups and downs, made mistakes. most people are understanding.
you should be okay.

As long as they aren't something that would be inapporiate around childern, it shouldn't be to big a deal. My cousin has many tattoos, crazy hair and dresses like an 80s rocker and is a second grade teacher.
I would only say anything if the employer brought it up and felt it may be an issue.
