Credit Card has been cancelled?

My Credit Card was refused yesterday, I wasn`t too worried as anyone with cards knows this happens now and then..I phoned Mastercard to find out what had happened and was told a retailer had lost/had stolen details of 7000 customers...so as a precaution my card was cancelled...

No problem so far but my problem is this...

Why won`t Mastercard tell me which retailer lost my details?

I want the choice of whether I shop there again on not..

Does anyone know how I can find out this information?

Update:

p.s.

I have contacted the Credit Card people they will not give me the name of the retailer...I have spent over an hour going from one supervisor to another and am no further on...

The banks and Mastercard International wont give out the details for legal reasons. In most cases it is not the retailers fault, they have been hacked into themselves and giving info to the general public may effect their fraud investigations.

You can feel safe to continue shopping. Most banks will cover you if any fraudulent transactions happen on your account, which is why they stop your cards in this situation, so they dont have to pay out millions.

Look at your statement when it comes and find out what was charged last. There will (if memory serves) be credits issued to the card to refund fraud charges, but you should be able to see some of the info still. Or, just call MasterCard or the bank and ask them for further info.
