Absolutely. It gives an opportunity for power to be distributed in a way that is far too skewed.

Noone likes to relinquesh power and thus struggles for assets will always arise.

Only if you believe that the current credit crunch will eventually lead to world wide depression and in turn to widespread political unrest and then unconstitutional political change. What happens then is that some dictator (left or right wing) comes along to sort it all out and calms it down for a few years. Then what happens is that eventually the dictatorship brings the economy to a grinding halt and then the free market starts again before everyone has starved to death.

In the real world in 2008 the major world economies will adjust to and overcome the present difficulties.

No. The democracies will implement more and more socialistic programs until the free market is destroyed. It has been happening for many decades.

Destruction of the free market system and personal wealth is a primary goal of the communist movement. Loss of the capitalist profit oriented free market system will surely doom us to live in worker's paradises like North Korea or Cuba.

I think it's pretty clear of the damage we are seeing the free market do to our economy. The economy is not going to rebound for any significant time frame.

Any system where 2/3 of the economy is reliant on the ability of one's citizenry to buy foreign goods is literally a house of cards as Bear Sterns was trying to tell us.

yeah, probably, the rich get richer, the poor get poorer and all that... so even though its technically a democracy it is run by banks etc.

The free marketplace will destroy greed.

This is why I love it so.
