Yes ,One can enrol for Ph.D through university and work through distance learning. This facility is available in some of the universities in Gujarat. you have to justify the availability of required laboratory facilities and other related facilities at his place of your residence . You can take up problems related to survey and analysis for specific period - say concentration of NOx and SOx at several traffic points of a specific city - where the university has no headquarter or laboratory facility. You will need to spend a fixed time with his guide every year. You will not get any assistance or scholarship for this type of work. The guide chosen should be an approved guide by the university concerned.

No, Chemistry is mainly a laboratory based subject, where direct interaction between research schloar and supervisor is very important inspite of every facilities like instruments, reagents, chemicals, IR, NMR, UV, X-ray etc.

in india correspondence phd is not available but if ur doing a job, u can do part time PhD...
but i suggest if ur interested in phd..do it full time...
