A nursery/home office combo?

We live in a fairly spacious 2-bedroom condo, however, the second bedroom is my husband's home office. Home office really is just a computer setup. It's imperative that he is able to work at home nights and weekends as needed. Anyway, at first we're discussing shifting everything in our living room/dining room to accomodate an office. Talk about tight. But now I'm thinking, can we put baby in the office? My husband would have to work at night sometimes, but whenever he does, he works by a desk lamp. We could put bookshelves (or something) to divide the room and to block out a lot of the computer light.

My question is, would the keyboard sound and minimal computer light bother the baby? And if you've dealt with a baby in a tight space, what did you do?

    Likely no.

There is a sweet picture of me peeking out of my crib looking at my father, who's at his desk next to me; we both have a "WTF are you doing here?" look. Certainly it can be done...

But you may run into nights where baby is very fussy; baby is sleeping exceedingly lightly; you are exhausted; husband has to work, and not be so fond of the arrangement.

It would probably be easiest and nicest for all concerned to just have baby in your bedroom with you.

If they are used to sleeping with background noise, it shouldn't bother them. Most babies can sleep through anything if they are used to it. I actually think the sound of the keyboard is kind of soothing to them...my son used to ask me to work while he went to bed!

The house we used to live in was very small, 2 bedrooms, with no basement, and I had my home office in my son's room when he was a baby. When he got old enough to get into my stuff all the time, I tried moving it into the living room, but it was too loud in there for me to work and concentrate, so I ended up moving into our entryway! We had a huge entryway...as big as the bedrooms, so that worked for me.

We have moved since then, but still have a 2 bedroom house...I have my home office in our bedroom now since we have 2 kids that share a room. It works out okay for me since my husband doesn't go to bed until after I'm done working, but it still would be nice to have a separate office!!

    Good luck! : )

I work from home and my office is set-up in my living room. My daughter always took naps next to me while I worked so I could keep an eye on her since I do a lot of transcription and have headphones on while I work. Babies get used to the noises they are around constantly. My daughter slept through it all, the phone, fax, typing 70+ wpm, etc. I would go for it. If it doesn't work out, then you can always move the desk later.

Share your bedroom with the baby. You'll have to come up with different locations for, um, adults-only activities, but hey, that adds a little creativity to your love life!

What ever works best for you, babys adjust to anything.
