Elections WON or LOST by one vote?
I have read somewhere that throughout history a number of key elections have been decided by one vote, and that the course of history would have been dramatically changed had just one person voted differently.
I think the most famous example was Adolf Hitler being elected to lead Germany's National Socialist Party by a one vote majority (altough I am not sure if this is true).
Can anyone provide me with decent examples (with sources noted where possible) where ONE vote has made a difference in an election.
Thank you.

Some little town here in Washington just had a tie for the mayoral election (I think there were like 40 people who voted for each person...it's that small of a town) and they decided who the winner would be by tossing a coin. Really!!

The popular vote does not decide the President, a (n) (Electoral College) group of 583 People comprised of Senators, Representatives and three D.C Electors make a decision for president. The first Candidate to reach the mark of 270 Electoral Votes from members of the Electoral College is automatically become the President for the next four years unless there is a recount or impeachment.

It's hard to believe, but one vote does make a difference, check out these sites for details.
