Just by Microsoft acquiring Yahoo, does not mean that Yahoo's culture would be ruined.
It does depend on how it is executed, and the quality of staff.
I bought stock in companies like Overture, that were later bought by Yahoo. So, I do own Yahoo stock. I do not own Microsoft stock.
Does anyone remember when Yahoo let you post messages at the end of news articles? Well, Yahoo decided to shut that down instead of cultivating it. (so, now, you have competitor Digg) Remember, Yahoo auctions? Remember, how the renovation project for its search advertising was far behind schedule?
Anyone impressed by the Yahoo press about how they were going to make things better?
I hate to say it, but, perhaps, its time for someone else to make the decisions instead of who we have now at the head of Yahoo.
Google has the majority of search advertising traffic. Considering Google's privacy polices, I would really have more options for where folks want to search.
So, given current consolidation environment, I would suggest that Yahoo does get acquired by Microsoft.

Based on their stock price over the last several years and what it's done I'd sell out for that in a second. If MS is told to go packing watch Yahoo's stock price and see it land with a thud. It's selling for what it is only BECAUSE of the offer. If that is withdrawn it will not be where it is right now.

I would tell Bill Gates to "Kiss my A$$, I will fold the company first, before I give it to you".
