Drinking alcohol causes the hepatitis C virus to replicate faster, thus causing the damage to the liver to occur faster. My nurse practitioner said one drink for someone with hep c is like someone who isn't infected to have 5 drinks. Hep C virus (HCV) alone causes scarring on the liver, so if you add alcohol to the mix, it increases the chances of liver cancer, end stage liver disease, and cirrhosis. While there is no formula to predict how long one can live (HCV affects everyone differently, and there are many variables that affect each person's case), it is safe to say that if you drink, you are severely limiting your chances of a normal, healthy, long life.

Long story short, maybe you have 15 years before you have serious problems, but there's no way to be sure. Best wishes.

Everyone is different. I can tell you that I agree with Cindy- alcohol is 100% toxic to anyone who drinks it. It is short lived in most who drink on occassion (under normal circumstances, ie, social drinking)

For those with Hepatitis C the toxicities from alcohol are increased drastically! When a person with HCV drinks, the effects are longer acting.

There is no telling how long a person with hcv will live as everyone is different. When you add alcohol you can be fine one day and the next seriously grave.

I would NOT drink alcohol. We absorb enough through skin washes, shampoos, lotions ect.

Those with HCV should NEVER drink alcohol!

Also, How long have you had hcv- do you know?

How much do you drink and how many times do you drink per week? Do you smoke too? Take tylenol or other for side effects? How is your diet? Do you know the extent of your liver damage? Do you have any extrahepatic diseases? There is a lot of circumstances in life itself, so there is no telling how long you can go without serious reprocussions to drinking!

Just because your young doesn't mean that HCV will not do anything to your body now- the issue is that with HCV there is NO TELLING!

I know a 7 year old that already has kidney issues from being born with HCV and he doesn't even know what alcohol is all about.

I had symptoms of HCV before I knew what alcohol was about. I can honestly tell you that one or two beers once in a blue moon would set me back for WEEKS. I felt horrible!

I know one friend who died because he went into a coma due to drinking alcohol with his hcv. He almost died once because of it and two years later he was succesful-and it was AWEFUL to see him go that way! His body wasn't yellow- it was dark ORANGE. He was so swollen the skin was very taught- kidney failure caused heart failure and hcv was the culprit!

HCV is not just a liver disease- it can cause over 150 extrahepatic diseases. Your not just causing damage to your liver- your creating damage to your entire being!

    Do NOT drink!
