Une Americain qui souhaite visite Paris....?

S'il vous plait, je suis une Americain, et, ma francais ne pas le mieux...

Il y a des personnes qui m'aider, et parles anglais?

I am planning a solo holiday for myself and would like to go to Paris. I'm interested in doing all of the 'tourist trap' activities, like visit the Louvre and the cemetary at Montmarte, use the Metro, walk about...

Any other things to do other than the typical tourist things? Parks to visit? Places to go shopping? Historical points of interest?

How much money could I survive on in one day? (food, public transport, etc...) Any good hostels to be recommended? Bars and cafes for people travelling alone in thier late 20's?

I am pretty proficiant in French, very independant, and good with directions. (mais, je comprends plus que je peux parle. Je suis ok avec ecrire et lis aussi...)

I would prefer to have answers from Parisians if possible :)

Oh yes, and of course I will be seeing the Eiffel Tower, Notre Dame, the Sienne...

Merci!

    Hello.

Not a Parisian here, but an American who lives in France. I've made quite a few little trips to Paris in my day, so I can share with you my personal experiences.

What is really going to cost you the most is going to be lodging. I haven't ever stayed in a hostel there, but I found a website that looks pretty good:

    http://www.bvjhotel.com/

The prices are relatively nice, and the areas will be of interest to you.

If you're interested in doing a lot of museums, you might want to consider getting a museum pass, which for a lump sum gives you unlimited visits for a certain number of days (2, 4, or 6 depending on the card you choose). You can see the list of museums included on this site (select "All Paris Passes", then "Paris Museum Pass"):

    http://www.conciergerie.com/main.htm?O=PO

The Picasso museum is really nice if you're into his work. I also really enjoyed the Musée des Arts et Métiers, which has a lot of old tools, computers, etc. Perhaps a bit untraditional, but fun.

If you enjoy wandering around cemetaries, I would recommend Père Lachaise over Montmartre. It's very large, shaded over with trees, and you can get away from the crowds of people quite easily to enjoy your experience that much more (assuming you aren't just looking for Jim Morrison's grave, that is).

At the foot of the Notre Dame, you have point zéro. It's a sort of bronze compass-shaped plaque from which all distances between Paris and other cities in France are measured. It's worth a photo.

For bars and cafés, don't worry. French people have no problem with eating by themselves on the balcony of any café, so you shouldn't either. In fact, you'll notice that a lot of balconies in France actually only sit people on one side of the tables, facing out, so while they're eating or drinking they can watch the people walking by. It is a bit odd, but true. You can always carry a small paperback with you if you prefer.

Your food budget will really depend on you. You can always have a lovely baguette sandwich for lunch if you want to save a bit for a nicer meal at dinnertime, and breakfast is quite cheap (a croissant or a pain au chocolat should do you). I would say €25/day should be enough to eat quite nicely.

Transport all depends on you. I would suggest buying tickets in carnets (packs) of ten, as you save money that way (I think it's about €11 for a carnet). You only pay once as long as you remain in the metro stations (meaning if you have to change lines twice to get where you're going you only use one ticket). However, you can easily use a handful of tickets in a day depending on what you are planning on doing. They also sell Metro Passes (you can see them on that same site with the Museum pass) but unless you're really planning on moving around a lot I don't think it's worth the price.

    Have a great time!

I’m going to answer you in English but it is hard for me. I don’t have fluent English. So, I hope you will understand what I mean. You talk about parks to visit. I suggest you to go to the Jardin du Luxembourg. It is located near the historical heart of Paris, uphill from the Latin Quarter. For shopping, go to Champs-Elysées of course, the nicest avenue of the world like we use to say. You can also go to place Vendôme, so smart with the jewellers! At last, if you want to eat something in an original restaurant, you could try a restaurant on a cruise-boat on the Seine. While you dine, you pass by many of Paris monuments, you see the Eiffel Tower, Notre-Dame, the Louvre… the beautiful lighting along the Seine. So nice.

You can find most of the tourist traps on the books or internet! Parisian usually don't know everything about Paris... we mostly know the parts of the city that we usually go. If you really want to visit many historical places, etc. You should ask for a professional guide. Anyway, it depends from what you are looking for. The amount of money you would need for a day trip on Paris is around 120 euros a day I think, exept if you want to visit many places with huge charges at the entry but 120 is an average i think. Welcome to Paris and enjoy your stay ;)

  • Hi!

Waw there are so many things to visit! hmm if you are looking for other typical tourist things, there is the Arc de Triumphe, the Jardin du Luxembourg, the Musée d'Orsay, the Quartier Latin, the Champs Elysée, ...there are so many!

Well public transport is esential to go from one place to another, you will take the metro quite a lot, it's not really expensive, about 1.20 euros per way, the bars/restaurants/cafés are usually about 13 euros per meal average, i would say... But you should check out on the internet on good visiting points b/c there are so many i can't think of them all, i'm probabily missing some must-sees! Anyways i hope you enjoy your stay!! Have fun! :)
