  • What is a good bulk pectin for canning/jamming?

I am trying to find a good product in bulk at a reasonable price. I am starting my canning season again, and I live in the middle of nowhere in Alaska, so prices are high for the 2 packets of Certo you get at the store.

Any leads would be great! Thanks!

  • How do I help get my boyfriend's daughter to sleep in her own bed?

I live with my boyfriend, who has primary custody of his 4 year old daughter, and where we live it is culturally acceptable to have children sleeping in the bed with the parents up to a late age.

Unfortunately, her mom lives in a city 600 miles away, and she has just returned to us after spending the summer with her, and she is having issues with going to bed now in her own room.

Behaviorlly, she is very good child and usually never requires reprimand. But her bouncing around between her mom, and her father and I has not helped with the discipline to get her to stay there.

I, myself, never grew up in this fashion, and I am having a hard time understanding any rationalle behind why this should be acceptable.

Please, without judgement, does anyone out there have any advice on how I can bring this subject up with my boyfriend and any pointers to help her adjust to wanting to sleep in her own room?

  • I need a good fried chicken recipe...?

Been all over the recipe sites, and cannot find one that suits me!

    What I am looking for:

Ingredients for batter and flour mix, and instructions on how to make it have a crispy coating...

Do I dredge the chicken in something first?

    What are your tips?

How do you make it at your home?

I have been cooking on my own for a few years now and never cooked fried chicken!

Thanks in advance for any tips and pointers!

  • How to get a book published?

I am a first time author, and I am almost complete with my novel. I still have the rough draft to tweak, and get it printed in manuscript form.

Here are some of my questions regarding the publishing process.

1)Should I obtain legal council to protect the rights to my book? What is the process and reasoning behind this?

    2) How do I know where to go?

3)What are publishers looking for when considering putting books into print?

4)I have characters in my novel that are named and/or based after people I know. Would there be any reason for me to worry about libel?

5)Are there any websites or publications I should look into to help with this process?

Again, thank you ahead of time.

  • College ARMY ROTC?

I am a prior service Army veteran. I am currently 28 years old, an LPN (nurse) and I am wanting to go back to school for my RN. Of course, the hardest thing to get me to go back to school is the working while going to school full time trying to support myself.

Is there an age cap off for ROTC for college students? Or is it available to anyone within enlistment age range?

Reasons why I am asking here first:

1)I was in the reserves for 8 years

    2)If I don't ave to talk to a recruiter, I won't. I don't like them now, nor did I ever....

    Thanks in advance.

  • Removing iron burn marks from jeans?

I am a nurse at a blind rehab center. One of my patients heavily starches all of his clothes, and has accidentally placed iron burn marks in 2 areas on a brand new pair of jeans.

I would normally tell him to call it a loss, but he is a homeless military veteran on a very slim income and he had paid to have the pants altered also.

These jeans are white, and I was thinking that maybe the burn marks could be bleached out. What type of bleach should we use?

Has anyone tried this or has any tips on fixing burns marks on clothing?

    Thank you!

  • What type of maintenance should I have done to my vehicle?

I have a 1999 Honda Accord, 4 cylinder, 4 door. It has 89K and is in great shape, never needed repair, and is up to date with all routine maintenance.

After 60-70K I was told to have the timing belts replaced. Does anyone know if this model has one or two timing belts? I was told different things by different people. What should a fair replacement cost be?

I know I should definitly get a tune up, and have the timing belt(s) replaced. I also need to have allignment done on my front wheels. What are and honest pricing rates for these servies?

I would like to also note that I do alot of long distance driving in my car. I am a travel nurse, and I drive across the country here and there around every 3 months or so. Anything I MUST HAVE DONE before I drive from San Jose, CA to San Diego? What maintenance needs to be done that I could put on hold, until I get to San Diego?

  • What are some pros and cons involved with filing for bankruptcy?

I am considering filing for bankruptcy since my credit is very bad.

I went into default on my student loans, and the way things are going now, it will be virtually impossible for me to rebuild my credit to something of an acceptible level.

I have never had a credit card, but have had some things go into collections, which 75% of all those debts have been paid off.

I don't know what is wrong here. I have been trying to get a low limit ($200 or so) credit card, with no luck, strictly for emergencies.

In filing for bankruptcy, would this also remove my debt from my student loans?

What are the benefits and hinderances of filing for bankruptcy?

    Personal experiences would be helpful.

  • Une Americain qui souhaite visite Paris....?

S'il vous plait, je suis une Americain, et, ma francais ne pas le mieux...

Il y a des personnes qui m'aider, et parles anglais?

I am planning a solo holiday for myself and would like to go to Paris. I'm interested in doing all of the 'tourist trap' activities, like visit the Louvre and the cemetary at Montmarte, use the Metro, walk about...

Any other things to do other than the typical tourist things? Parks to visit? Places to go shopping? Historical points of interest?

How much money could I survive on in one day? (food, public transport, etc...) Any good hostels to be recommended? Bars and cafes for people travelling alone in thier late 20's?

I am pretty proficiant in French, very independant, and good with directions. (mais, je comprends plus que je peux parle. Je suis ok avec ecrire et lis aussi...)

I would prefer to have answers from Parisians if possible :)

Oh yes, and of course I will be seeing the Eiffel Tower, Notre Dame, the Sienne...

    Merci!

Bars, dives, and watering holes in the Santa Clara/San Jose area for late 20-somethings?

  • My car dies while engine is running?

I have a 1999 Honda Accord. I have had it for about 3 years, and I have taken great care of it. Oil changes, tire rotations, air filters, engine flushes, etc...Routine maintenance has always been done when needed.

Over the last 2 weeks, I have been at a stop light, and the engine will shut itself off. The only light that goes off in the dash is the key light, telling me my keys are still in the ingnition. This has happened to me about 8 times. I can start my car again, after turning my engine over about 2-5 times.

    What could this be?

  • Things to do in the San Jose area?

My father (58 yrs) is going to be visiting me (28 yrs) in 2 weeks, and will be staying with me for about 10 days.

I am new-ish to the Silicon Valley area, and currently live in Santa Clara. I know how to get around ok, but I am still not sure what is all out there to do.

We already have plans to go to SF and Acatraz, Monterey, Santa Cruz, Hiller Aviation Museum, the Winchester Mansion, and the Redwoods.

What other interesting things (tourist-y) would be good to do for someone who is new to the area and someone who has never been here before?

I am looking for activities that don't include too much heavy walking for my Dad has both knees replaced and situationally bad back.

    Thank you.
