well i am not of the mormon faith so i really don't know what all is in the book of mormons, but personally i think they are thing written that we have to look at close and see what it really means and how it applies, are you of the mormon faith? if so then why not ask the preacher of the church to explain it, and if for some reason you feel it's not acceptable then maybe you need to make some choices, and if your not of the mormon faith then let it go, put your time into which religion you do believe in, i know this ain't the answer you're probably looking for it more of advice.

Source(s): and this has nothing to do with your question silverfoxx this is for kneebreaker as i'm sure some saw on a question someone else asked he ask if i was your new wife i just want to let him know that i'm not and should he wan't to call my husband he's welcome to my husband will even meet him to "talk" about it, sorry to add this to your answer but seems kneebreaker seems to follow you or anyone else he thinks is you and answer, if you to had a personal relationship or something maybe it should be taken up some where else and not let it apply to others answers, sorry if this offends anyone but i don't appericate a stranger making unfounded remarks expecially when they have no idea what their talking about.

The old testament teaches Blood sacrifice....why is it that you don't offer blood sacrifices as a good Christian?

The answer is because another prophet came forth and instructed us to do away with the practice.

There is a difference between eternal truths and council/commandments.

The prophet in the Book of Mormon was inspired by God to instruct them not to practice polygamy. There were polygamists in the Bible, after all.

That is precisely the reason a modern prophet is important for us, so that we can understand God's will for us today.

Have you received an answer from God about whether or not the Book of Mormon is true???

I won't profess to understand why all the things occured in the Bible. I don't know why a Prophet called some she bears out of the woods to kill 42 children. (yes, that's in the Bible).

Just because I don't understand why, doesn't mean that it didn't, couldn't have, or shouldn't have happened.

Contrary to what some people on Yahoo!Answers seem to think, the Book of Mormon is not a handbook on Mormon beliefs. It is not a list of things we believe in. It is not a manifesto of differences we have with other churches. It is not a catechism.

The Book of Mormon is a historical document. It is the history and teachings of prophets who lived on the American Continent between 600 BC and 425 AD.

Polygamy was considered a sin in the Book of Mormon unless commanded by God, and he didn't command the people to practice it in America.

Some people claim that the Doctrine and Covenants says that you must practice plural marriage or you will be damned. However, this is not a correct reading of the Doctrine and Covenants.

We can't take anything out of the scriptures.

I hope this helps answer your question.

LDS Missionaries can only be on line if emailing their families, they do not participate in chats, or such as this, they would not see this. I am the room mate of the person whose account this is, and i am LDS, and have been on a mission. I am a bit confused about your wording. I think what you are asking, is about a time in the book of mormon where the word 'wife' is pluralised into the word 'wives'. if i am wrong i apologise, if this is your question, then my answer is thus.

we don't change God's word for change in political climate. in this day and age, and in this country, it is not accptable to have plural mairage, but the Bible still states that both Israel and David (among others) had 'wives'. I would not change that in the Bible, and the same for The Book of Mormon, Another Testament of Jesus Christ.

addition-- i just saw the clarification. Under our articles of faith, the standard basic beliefs for the church, one is that we believe in being law abiding citizens (paraphrased here) This means that since polygamy is illegal, we do not follow it, as to follow it would put us in dirrect opposition to the law, and therefore to our own beliefs. So we don't practice it anymore, some break offs do, but anyone in the church who does, is promptly excommunicated. as to why it is still in the Book of mormon see above, i do hope this helps. also, for more information, you can always look up www.lds.org or www.mormon.org

If I understand you correctly, you are asking about our different stances on polygamy at different points of time. Is that correct?

Polygamy is a "sometimes" commandment. It can be required at some points and forbidden at all others. In the Book of Mormon, it is forbidden. In Jacob 2:31, Jacob says that it is forbidden unless the Lord commands it, and uses the example of raising up seed (offspring)

Polygamy had it's uses in the early church. It helped to take care of women who would otherwise have been left destitute. It also helped "raise up seed." In Acts 3, Peter talks about the restitution of all things. One thing that needed to be restored, at least for a time, was polygamy. It had its uses. But it became illegal. The Church used every legal channel available to try to appeal this, and still stuck to it until Wilford Woodruff, the prophet and president of the Church, received a revelation of how the church would be disenfranchised and it's members in prisons. The Lord commanded Pres. Woodruff to discontinue the practice of polygamy.

It is no longer needed nor commanded now, so it is no longer practiced and is again forbidden.

    Hope that helps.

I would say your problem is communication/language barrier and not the CHURCH itself, Sweets

Try a communicator/language interpret or the next time they come. :)
